I'm not on the Left, but I think the looting of that museum was a tragedy.

Don't make the same mistake the Left does, boiling everything down to scoring political points or defending our goal. Conservatives care about history and culture, as we should. It's one of the things that distinguishes us from the Left, which always wins when people are cut off from their past. After all, who are the great culture-destroyers of the 20th century? Mao, Lenin, Pol Pot...

I absolutely agree. However, how many US lives would have been expendable in order to have prevented it? It was also the work of professional thieves who just waiting for the chance to steal.

A tragedy is when a child dies. That was a robbery.

Sounds great in psychobabble, but makes no sense.
If you think that anything in that museum would redeem the bunch of thugs which looted it,you are delusional.

It was a sad thing about the looting of the museum. But, why didn't they have better security measures in place? They had months of warning before the war.Could they not have moved the artifacts to safer premises in that time?
And, one "clay pot" does not replace a US soldier!!

<> Some people forget that the IRAQI's looted their own museum. All the lefties who consider this a tradegy are the same people who blame the cops when the animals in Oakland go nuts because the Raiders lose a Superbowl. The Iraqi's did the damage to THEIR artifacts. Call it a tradegy if they were to come over here and do the same thing to the Smithsonian. The real tradegy is the 1+ million dead muslims who died simply for living in the wrong place at the wrong time - not some busted clay pots.

So why are you not blaming the Iraqis ? It was their history you would think they would have prepared for a war they knew was coming. Maybe it was Saddams men who stole the artifacts, what do ya think ?

And here's something else to think about....what if we HAD put troops there to prevent the looting thieves? How would they do that??? Put shooting them, that's how.

And, wouldn't the left just LOVE THAT? Then all of a sudden they're no longer looters or theives....they become INNOCENT CIVILIANS

Don't think for A SECOND, that it wouldn't play out JUST like that.

Lastly, HOW COME THE HUMAN SHIELDS DIDN'T PREVENT THE LOOTING,Hmm?

Save your breath. The open-mouthed-breathers (who are rapidly making up the majority of posters here) will eat you alive.

Look, one needn't be on the left to think the looting was a tragedy. Truth is conservatives value history and artifacts more. It's the tiresome pointing of blame at the U.S. for "not protecting" what wasn't even there anymore that is the problem.
