[history]
SAN JOSE, Calif. -A catastrophic earthquake as powerful as the $20 billion Northridge quake of 1994 has a 62 percent chance of striking the Bay Area in the next 30 years, a panel of scientists will announce Tuesday.
And of the seven major faults in the region, the Hayward-Rodgers Creek and San Andreas fault systems, which pose direct threats to San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland, are the most likely to generate a 6.7 magnitude or greater quake before 2032.

For the last 30 years and more, I reckun, quakeologists have been predicting we are at risk for a major quake in the Bay Area in the next 30 years.

Any chance we can bump this up a bit? Say in time for '04?

I don't like the news at all. The Marxists of the Bay Area will be moving into the Red Zone. I just want the Bay Area to become its own nation.

Hey! How about sending us a little assistance? Some of us are still here fighting the good fight. Lend us some strong young men from the Red Zone and perhaps we can execute a regime change here. Certainly, this would be more critical to the security of America as a whole than regime change in some far off land!

What all these numbers sound like is that they know it's going to happen sometime but they really have no clue as to when.
My bet is that all that pressure will be released as soon as a Chinese or North Korean nuke hits the state.

But an even larger quake, magnitude 7.5 or above, is only about 10 percent likely to occur over the next 30 years. Two Bay Area faults, the San Andreas and the San Gregorio, are long enough to produce a quake that powerful. My understanding has been that the Hayward fault is easily capable of an earthquake of such magnitude and is due to go any time. Heck, they didn't even know the Zayante fault was active enough to produce the Loma Prieta quake.
Sounds a little flaky.

And I predict that sometime in the next 30 years the Yankees will win the championship, and sometime in the next 30 years an major motion picture star will die, and sometime in the next 30 years rain will fall in Seattle.

How would the touchy, feely liberals react to an invasion?

Shouldn't be too difficult an invasion. Some would lay in the street, covered in ketchup, and pretend to be dead as a form of protest. A few others will barf on the sidewalk to express their displeasure.
However, one particular elite group of resistance fighters may very well neccessitate some protective eyewear for the troops. That would be the womYn who get naked and spell out "Peace" with their fat, unshaven bodies in an attempt to change the world.

Useless. All the scientists will have crept into senility....Or sanity perhaps by that time.
Nitwits.
