For those of you who have followed the "war on terror" and peripheral events related to it, you have heard of Professor Daniel Pipes, the director of the Middle East Forum. He, along with Steve Emerson, have been on the point of the spear in the national and intellectual debate and forum in aiding the Bush Administration in forming foreign policy on how to respond to Islamic terrorism.
President Bush recently nominated Professor Pipes to the US Institute of Peace. Already, Islamic extremist organizations based here in the US, which ostensibly "defend" Muslim rights but are being found out one by one to be front groups for terrorists, have already opposed this nomination to their sympathizers in Congress. That is wrong.
In the national arena there is a wide body of opinions concerning Islam, Muslims, and Islamic extremism, ranging from the ultra liberal which demands we appease and "understand" terrorism, to the more, umm, "assertive" in the Conservative community which want to simply nuke Middle East countries which harbor and support Islamic terrorism off the face of the map.
Professor Daniel Pipes, being a Conservative, has maintained a strong stance against Islamic extremism, yet has maintained a very balanced position, realizing the fact that in light of all that has happened, a billion adherents of Islam are not going to just "give up there religion."
I have read Professor Pipes extensively, including his recent book, "Militant Islam Comes To America." He bends over backwards to be objective and maintains a forward thinking outlook in light of current events, and I endorse him wholeheartedly as a professional, even though we may not agree on some points in his research and long-term philosophy (this writer leans hard right).
Please take a moment and sign this petition to confirm President Bush's nomination of Daniel Pipes to this position. I have been assured it will be utilized effectively if it generates enough attention. The Bush Team has been a winning team, and this addition of Professor Daniel Pipes will be an effective addition to that team.
