Captured Iraqis could lead allies to Saddam

THE CAPTURE of two of the coalitions most wanted members of the former Iraqi regime could lead to the capture of Saddam Hussein, say opposition groups.
Jamal Mustafa Sultan Abdullah al-Tikriti, Saddams son-in-law, who surrendered in Damascus last night, was one of the Iraqi leaders trusted inner circle.
Married to Hala, Saddams younger daughter, he is listed as the nine of clubs in a pack of cards handed out to United States troops showing the 55 most wanted figures of Saddams regime. The former Iraqi dictator is the ace of spades.
Moments after Jamal gave himself up, US Central Command announced that Humam Abd al-Khaliq Abd al-Ghafar, the minister of higher education and scientific research, was in custody.
Yasser Alaskary, the media affairs director of the pro-democracy group Iraqi Prospect Organisation, said: Jamals bound to know where Saddam could be because hes married to Saddams daughter and its very likely that she knows where he is.
Jamals surrender means that six of the men featured in the most wanted deck of cards have been caught.
Syrias role in the discovery of the two was unclear, but George Bush, the US president, said yesterday he thought Damascus was responding to demands it deny sanctuary to members of the former regimes administration.
However, there are signs the US is determined to maintain its military pressure in the region. The New York Times reported that military chiefs want a long-term presence, with four strategically-placed airbases to frighten Syria and Iran.
Meanwhile, the bodies of two soldiers found in a shallow grave near Basra were confirmed last night as those of Sapper Luke Allsopp and Staff Sergeant Simon Cullingworth, of the 33 (EOD) Engineer Regiment.
Last month, a row broke out over the deaths when Tony Blair, the Prime Minister, said the men had been executed.

Assuming Saddam is in one piece, mind you.
It sounds like our lads were indeed executed. I hope that some of the people in the pack of cards will have strips torn out of their hide in response.
Regards, Ivan

I doubt Saddam or Uday are still amongst us, but at this point I really would like them to be captured alive. The trials, with ALL the Iraqi witnesses, would be fun to watch, with Al-Jezzara and other Arabic media AND French, German, and Russian media trying to spin like hell.

Being taken out by a j-dam seems much too quick and merciful. Saddam's death should be slow and extremely painful.

Our prayers for your two fallen warriors Ivan.
I'd like to know just how many of the gang of 55 were in that restaurant when it was bombed. Perhaps when we get the DNA back we'll find out that there's only 20 or so left.

My sympathies to the UK for the loss of these two brave men. I hope the US will never forget who it was that stood with us during the last few months; I know I never will.
