Scott Peterson had $10,000 in cash with him when he was arrested in connection with the deaths of his wife, Laci, and their unborn son, a law enforcement official said Saturday. The revelation could help explain authorities' concern that Peterson would flee, possibly to Mexico, before they could arrest him on Friday.

There is one more serious aspect to this case, seldom mentioned. Scott Petersen pretended not to know where Laci was , and this caused the townspeople of Modesto to go on almost endless searches for her, in canals, in lakes, and every place imaginable. And if these people are just normal people, they are going to be most angry with Scott for making fools of them, if the evidence shows that he has known all along where she was, dumped into the bay.

LA Times does not allow full articles to be printed, and if you post one, a sign comes up automatically, and it allows for that post to be automatically excerpted. But in this instance, it did not work, and the whole article was posted, and it should not have been. I am sorry, but can do nothing about it now.

Never fear, that $10,000 will be gobbled up by the attorney in no time flat.

I can't be too hard on his parents. How could anyone believe their child is a killer? Their natural instincts are to protect him and grieve for their grandson that someone else had to have killed. All of this looks really bad for SP but I don't understand why he would say he was at the very place they found her. I also don't understand why he dyed his hair BLOND to hide in Mexico. JMO but I think they probably had a fight about his affair and he hit or pushed her and killed her and then freaked out instead of calling the police.

Attorney's fees? Just think how much his parents are going to spend defending their son, and he will STILL be found guilty.

They should save their money and pray for their dear boy.

The law enforcement official who spoke Saturday asked not to be identified

The famous "unidentified sources" BS meter is going off.

Scott Peterson killed two people in California. He's white. I'm white. Therefore, he's innocent. (See: State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson for precedent.)

No question this guy was ready to bolt. Dyed his hair, grew facial hair and dyed that, scoped out places in Mexico, and was carrying large amounts of money. This guy is so incredibly stupid.

I think their anger at the fact that he committed a grisly murder of his wife and child is probably going to trump any irritation with being led on a wild goose chase.

But that's just me.

I see it differently.

The fact that they are so willing to dismiss this, and pretend that the reality is otherwise, is an indicator of how Scott Peterson became such a creepy monster in the first place.

My sister's ex-husband was that way. Just a complete jerk who came from money and whose parents had spent his entire childhood through young adulthood cleaning up his messes.

When they were confronted with evidence of his physical abuse of my sister and their two daughters, they blamed my sister.

They would NEVER own up to the fact that they had helped create a monster.

You got the formula wrong (there is no reciprocal property involved here).

The formula is "Scott Peterson is white. Therefore if he's guilty there's no way he's worming out of it."

Why does this not surprise me? Yes, some people that come from disfunctional families end up rotten. Others overcome. Blaming someone else for our actions is a sickness in this country. It's just natural for a parent to stand behind their child. If a cop showed up to arrest your child for a crime and your child told you he/she was innocent you would want to believe them. After you found out they were guility, you going to dis-own them or visit them in prison and let them know that regardless of what they have done that you still love them?
