Reps. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., and Darrell Issa, R-Calif., were the first American officials to meet Assad since the recent escalation of U.S.-Syrian tensions. What business do these scoundrels have that allows them to go the Syria to meet with foreign leaders? I thought the Executive branch, and specifically the State Dept was in charge of foreign policy. Also, I assume the US tax payer is paying for their junket?

There are reports that Bashar al-Assad has been attempting reforms from within the old Baathist government for some time now, and Rep. Darrell Issa is hardly a scoundrel.

I thought the Executive branch, and specifically the State Dept was in charge of foreign policy. That's what the Executive branch wants people to think--it's called the Imperial Presidency. In reality, Congress is where the buck starts and stops, the people's representatives. We don't quite have a King George just yet.
