Obviously, Herr Joffe's opinion differs a lot from a majority of his fellow Germans.

Kosovo isn't the only UN-"built" nation; there is an Arab example.
You may have heard of the Palestinians . . . half a century of "progress."

What the world needs is a gathering of leaders that are legitimately elected by their people. The U.N. that we see today has become a gathering of opportunistic third world nations looking to shackle the United States of America then it is a body of Nations looking to keep the peace.

No longer can we subscribe to a world body like the U.N. that gives equal standing to Nations that have absolutely no regard to the basic human rights of the people they represent.

For the U.N. to recognize Lybia as a nation fit to serve as the chair on the Human Rights committee as well as Iraq as the chair of the World Disarmement Committee!!! flies in the face of everything we stand for as a nation that was founded on the principles of freedom and self governance.

If the world should find a need to replace the failed United Nations, there must be standards each nation must meet to qualify. We need a world body of leaders that model themselves in the traditions of "Liberty and justice for All" and not Leaders who rule by oppression & brutality

I think Joffe's opinion is not too dissimilar to those of the German business class who have steadfastly argued against Scrhoeder's opposition to America. They recognize that America has done a lot of good and probably know that Iraq will be a much better customer for them and Europe if it is under American management for a while.

There is, at least, some hope for the Germans. I am reminded of the General George Patton Quote:

"I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."

The politics of the U.N. is run by the French. THIS is the only avenue for the French to wield influence and control internationally. The French will use the U.N. (and the E.U.) as the vehicle for her never-ending search for world power. She hates America only because we outstrip her and stand in her way.

Don't think the Bush administration doesn't know this perfectly well. And they aren't about to allow the French to usurp the liberation of the Iraqis, bought with American blood.

Another democratization of a Third World nation that is being overlooked is India under the British. Niall Ferguson's book "Empire" delineates this very well. America improved on the methods later in Japan, Germany, Taiwan and South Korea.
