Schieffer Inserts Own Foot in Mouth
Oregon Magazine ^ | April 1, 2003 | Larry Leonard

"(snip)...Here, then, is the truth. The badly planned, inefficiently run, laughable failure here is the war reporting by CBS, NBC and ABC. The fools of the century are not to be found in the White House. They are to be found at the networks. Bumbling clowns almost to a man and a woman, including Schieffer, they couldn’t accurately report an event if their lives depended on it. From the ludicrous and completely off-target coverage and analysis they presented during last year’s series of sniper shootings adjacent to Washington, D.C., to their abject failure to grasp the most simple of economic concepts (like the fact that ENRON as a company didn’t begin operations after January 20th, 2001), Mr. Schieffer and his network friends have a proven public track record of misunderstanding every event, large and small, they have ever covered.

From their lionizing of Jesse Jackson as a noble leader while he was blackmailing American corporations with threats of race demonstrations, then spending his ill-gotten gains on a mistress and bastard child, to their promotion of Barney Frank as an intelligent legislator while Dear Barney was unaware his boyfriend was running a house of prostitution in his, Barney’s, own basement, Schieffer and friends have daily demonstrated they haven’t a clue as to what is going on....(snip)

Like the Marth Burk deal with the Augusta National protest.
If you were to believe the New York Times' front pages for about a month straight, you would've thought women were being executed out there at Butler's Cabin.

When in actuallity there were more than 2 times the number of golf holes than protesters.

I feel dirty listening to the Toms and Dans and Peters and Bobs. They've been lying to our faces for 'lo these many years to try to affect a Marxist brainwashing.

From their worship of JFK, who proposed a massive general tax cut to revive a stagnant economy (which worked) and sent troops to fight for the freedom of others in a foreign land, to their castigation of Bush for his proposal of a massive general tax cut to revive a stagnant economy, and who sent troops to fight for the freedom of others in a foreign land, the American mainstream media makes a Dodo look like a bird with vast intellectual reach.

This one sticks out real nice.

Is there anyone who has been at any event covered by the press and upon reading about it or watching it afterwards, did not come away wondering what event the press was covering??

I have experienced stories where I participated or had "inside information" that were local, state, and national.

I have had very good luck with local (small town) reporters. These underpaid and overworked folks take the time to figure out the facts of the situation and to be fair and accurate. Their questions are clearly designed to obtain information and not to push a specific point of view. Who, what, when, where, why--all of their questions concern those facts and they do their best to get the correct answers.

Large city and state reporters tend to make major factual errors and allow "agenda" to drive their story. Almost without fail their reporting bears little resemblance to the facts at hand.

National reporters are the worst by far. Their reporting is totally "agenda driven". "What's the angle?" is all they care about. Facts are few and far between and usually wrong, key parts of the stories are omitted, and their (wacked out left-wing) opinions are almost certain to drive the story.

That is why I am convinced that the best way to find out the truth about events is to "go local", particularly in smaller communities.

Events shouldn't be "spun". They should just be reported. Likewise if people the reporter interviews start spinning the reporter should just say "if you spin it won't go in the article. If you have some factual information you would like to share then I am listening."

There is an excellent serious point to be made about the hand wrnging over the Gitmo prisoners and the media coverage of our guys who were killed in Iraq. Namely, I have yet to see a single story about the POWs killed. ANd we sure heard daily about how poorly the prisoners were being treated in Gitmo, how awful they have it down there.

And Tom Brokaw can sit back with that stupid smug smirk on his face and chortle about how he's not biased in any fashion...a-holes.

I wonder sometimes whether Barney Frank DID KNOW that his boyfriend was running a prostitution ring out of his apartment, but allowed it anyway. Maybe Barney got a cut of the profits (a pimp?) or just looked the other way so that his gay lover wouldn't leave him. A thorough investigation was never conducted as to Barney's involvement, his version of things was just taken as the truth. If you replaced a female prostitute into this scenario the congressman involved would have ended up having to resign, if he was a Republican, or conservative, anyway. Gays want to have equal rights with straights, but in this case they were actually treated BETTER than a straight would have been.
