A pity, really. It's very clear from this that Quebec is a millstone around Canada's neck - too bad they didn't go PQ and left entirely.
Regards, Ivan

The (unofficial but widely used) flag of Canada...before the trouble started.

If only Quebec would go away on their own! But hope is fading...

If Quebec WERE to leave, it would isolate the 4 eastern provinces from the western provinces, but it would be worth it!

What kind of fool does one need to be to believe a Liberal party will actually go through with a tax cut?

But instead Quebecers, as they are called in English, opted for Charests promise to slash income tax by about 10 cents in the dollar and reduce public spending. I don't pretend to understand the politics of our neighbors to the North, but it's facinating that it's the Liberal party who want to cut taxes....

It's ironic.
The Torie loyalists who stayed with the Crown
Have rejected their heritage, let the Queen down.
Those awful colonists who bolted George later
Join with the Commonwealth, dump a dictator.

I didn't know the Scots (Scotland on Sunday) had a funnies sction (AKA Comics). Guess the FQs had enough of their own boy - CRETON. Wait until late Spring / Summer when the tourists don't show up. Problem will be that no one will know if it was SARS of the French Canadian Minister!

When did the province "nunavut" get created? Haven't seen that before.
My Canadian geography isn't too good.

The rift between French-speaking Quebec and the rest of the country has been a defining factor in Canadian politics since the country's creation. But it is only in the past 40 years that separatism has entered the political mainstream. Separatism is an excuse for the ruling Party in Quebec to suck money from the rest of Canada trough the Federal Government in Ottawa, which not only gives them money but also, creates jobs there. It's ironic that the Separatists in Quebec want to separate yet, they support Palestinian statehood. However, we all know about Quebec's latent historic anti-Semitism.

They split NW Territories and gave the eastern half as a new separate province to the Inuit and other native folks a few years back.

the stunning defeat of the Parti Quebecois in elections this week Stunning? I'm from Quebec and no party ever wins more than 2 straight mandates. Ever. This in addition to them being sorry-a** clowns imposing the highest taxes in North America. I didn't vote for them, nor the Liberals, but seeing them outta here is relief enough for the next 4 years.

Ten years ago I would have celebrated for such an outcome. Jean Charest is as conservative as a Liberal can be. But now it's different. I want the French out of Canada as many Canadians do. And you're right about their anti-semitism, it's part of being French.

I know that 75% of Quebecois are against the war in Iraq. They are anti-American as well.
