Which book? I believe the term "murder" has been used for a grouping of crows since the middle ages or so.

I can't find "murder" in such a collective sense in any of my dictionaries, not the Reader's Digest Dictionary, not the American Heritage Dictionary, and not the Oxford English Dictionary.
