Those are the regional flights of 400 NM or less. You have to balance that out against longer range flights of 600 - 1000 NM, which take anywhere from 8 - 14 hours of driving. Also, don't blame the airlines for airport security, put the blame on the pinheads in DC who decided to federalize the whole system.

don't blame the airlines for airport security, put the blame on the pinheads in DC who decided to federalize the whole system I wasn't blaming them for that aspect, but merely stating that fear of flying is not the only or even the main reason flying is down. The biggest reason is the economy, followed by the factors already mentioned. Those weigh differently on different length flights, although I'm not sure how the various factors weigh in. I've only flown twice in the last year, once on Southwest, once on American (and Am. Eagle). Neither was on a weekend, and it seemed that most of the people were business travelers, even on the short San Antonio to DFW or to Dallas Love segment.
