I'd be happy to stop locking them up when they stop commiting crimes.

Part of the problem is many of these crimes are victimless ones. Also, it can't be denied that if you have money and influence, you can make the "justice system" work for you. If you don't have money or influence, you're screwed in many areas of the country.

It would be better to repeal most laws, except for ones involving harming another person, property crimes, or fraud.

Those found guilty of serious crimes such as murder, rape, or massive fraud (such as identity theft or framing someone for a serious crime) would be taken out and hanged the next day.

Those found guilty of lesser crimes would be punished via a restitution system whereby the victim was made whole (and then some).

Such an approach would remove the serious problems from the gene pool, reduce crime, and improve the quality of life for all decnet Americans. It would also put a lot of politicians and cops out of work, so it would probably never fly.

Amen, brother, it certainly would be better. Never happen though.

interesting notion. I like it, on principle. As you note: it will never fly, for the reasons noted.
