Why would it be illegal.

See post six. It is against federal law to rename any geographic sites until the person being named has been dead for five years. Lori hasn't been dead five WEEKS.

Anyway, any symbolic honor to this woman is a plus for us all. She died serving all of us.

I couldn't care less. To break the law in order to score feel-good points is evil right out of the Clinton playbook. And of course, the AZ governor is a Clintonite RAT.

Well, if a law has been violated it can be overturned. I remember when Clemente died unexpectedly helping Nicaragan refugees and the Hall of Fame waived the rules to vote him in immediately. I agreed with that override. Have to ponder this one a bit. Thanks for the clarification.

Gov. Janet was one of the lead attorneys in the Clarence Thomas hearings.

Guilty here of political pandering, since Indian reservations helped get her in a close election v. Salmon.

Worse. She's basically accused most of us of being racist. Typical divisive politics.

I, and probably most, thought Pocahantos was an Indian squaw, not some vagina. BS.

And finally, this Dem circumvented the law, which was put in place to prevent EX-FRIGGIN-ACTLY this kind of emotional response.

Hats of pfc. Piestewa

You really need to get your blood pressure checked, TS. This is an honor we would be bestowing upon her for her sacrifice. Let the 5 year period continue if the law cannot be rescinded. Five years is just a convention anyway. Officially let it be known as Squaw Peak until 2008, but let all the signs proudly proclaim it as Piestewa Peak. And if the law sets 5 years, another law superceding it can set 2 weeks, if the silly law is so damned important to you.

By the bye, your callous disregard for her personal sacrifice and your proclamation of the honor being granted as 'evil' I personally find chilling and disturbing.

Is that silly law blessed the constitution anywhere? - Or do we only hate silly laws that run counter to our own personal agendas?

Your impression of the meaning of post six is incorrect if you believe it says anything about this being illegal. It is not against any Law. The feds just won't recognize the new name for 5 yrs.

People jumping up and down about this just look mean-spirited. Arizona has a right to do this.

Opposing it is definitely a no-win position.

And what business is it of the feds as to how a state names features within its own boundaries? It's funny how may folks here are federalists until it is inconvient for the political point they wish to make.
