Hey, long time no see :) When the Andrea Yates story broke, I was in the middle of writing a term paper for my psychology class. The topic I was given was "Electroshock Therapy; Does it or Does it Not Work". There was a story where Rusty took Andrea to a shrink and they turned down the option of Electroshock. As I researched, I learned that besides memory loss, the treatment causes brain lesions. In addition, my conclusion was that it is not effective in long term relief of symptoms. What if Andrea Yates had gone through Electroshock? She's already in bad shape, right? At least maybe those kids would still be alive. The doctors are not to blame, the family is. Look at it this way, if the doctor tells you to quit smoking and you don't and end up with lung cancer, whose fault is it?

Very much true. There is the sympathy factor though. I don't think Andrea ever had shock treatment. She was on some major drugs though. Sad to think that she was the Valedictorian of her class in 1981. Even the "experts" said because of the psycotic drugs, her brain is fried, she will never be remotely the same person. Then add the guilt.
