Now we all know La Spears is not spending her time leafing through Newsweek or the New York Times, but can someone brief her about the particulars of the countries she visits? The former Mouseketeer has irritated the Brits again by confessing that she doesn't know who Tony Blair is, MSNBC.com reported.
But is anyone really surprised?
When told that Alastair Campbell - a veddy British moniker ain't it?!? - is a big fan of hers, Spears asked who he is. "He's Tony Blair's right-hand man," Spears was told, according to the London Daily Mirror. "Tony Blair? I've never heard of him either. Who is he?" she said, unaware that she was breathing new life into the phrase "ugly American."
Girlfriend purportedly gasped when she learned Blair is the prime minister of, like, Great Britain. "Oh! He's very important then if he's the prime minister. That's a real tough job, isn't it? It's really cool that this guy Alastair Campbell likes me, then."
Apparently it would be totally uncool if he was a regular Joe like most of her fans.
The clueless are all around us...seemingly normal people...but they have no interest in anything except Britney Spears, Survivor, and Oprah.
And their votes count just the same as ours.
We had a similar incident about 1.5 years ago...was hosting a get-together and during one of the fun-time games we were playing (having to identify notable celebs/headline grabbers, etc.), one of the ladies did not know who Tipper Gore was. At first I thought she was kind of putting on an act, but then realized she was being sincere. I was somewhat taken aback by this, needless to say.
