I don't think the nukes are the problem at this timn, its the other 24,000 missiles sitting at the DMZ, cocked, aimed and ready to launch at Seoul.

Half of Seoul, and 2-3 million people could be eradicated before it ever made the wire services that an attack had begun.

Would take one hell of a lot of Patriots to knock those down.

Good grief, how does SK ever put up with all this destruction in its back yard? If we ever saw a buildup like that in Cuba we'd nuke the place pronto.

San Francisco and L.A. and our western coastal cities and Alaska WILL BE HIT by nuclear missles from N. Korea IF we attack them. It is this that they are counting on to keep us at bay. BUT another scenario is this:
1. they give the plutonium and maybe a fairly small bomb to terrorists.
2. they bring it the bomb into a major western coastal city port
3. kaboom - millions of Americans killed.
4. we respond - blowing them away
5. China launches its missles at US
6. We launch at them

World War III started when those trade towers came down - we just didn't see the way the nuclear cards would fall.

IF it doesn't come down that way then here is the other scenario:
1. Nuke stuff gets into the hands of Islamic terrorists
2. they set off dirty bombs in CHicago area - which is ringed by 11 nuclear plants - and
3. the radiation from these filthy dirty bombs makes Chi town unliveable and we have 11 nuclear plants we can't maintain any more because the ground is too radioactive - so then they deteriorate and all of northern Illinois and the great lakes and their costal cities become unliveable and unusable

OR

1. Nuclear material is simply put in a van that has a hole in the bottom of it and it is seeded throughout one city after another and along major highways for hundreds of miles
2. the highways and the cities become useless to us for generations - some of this stuff can't be "cleaned up" and stays around for hundreds if not thousands of years
3. America becomes an impoverished nation
4. European accomodators like France gain the power in the world
5. Islamic fundamentalists and the OIL powers in Middle East rule with France and cohorts and Saddam will seem like a pussycat compared to the world leaders that arise

There's another side of the equation to this "arms" race. It's called PROLIFERATION. Sure we could park a few subs off the coast of South Korea armed with anti-ballistic missile batteries but that's not going to solve the problem. Hell we could let Japan go nuclear - but it still doesn't solve the problem. A nuclear flea market hosted by Kim Jong Il and featuring such star-stellar customers as the mullahs in Iran, Assad in Syria and your friendly neighborhood Islamist Osama bin Laden is a problem that won't be solved with Cold War--style deterence.

Speaking of card, maybe it would grab the wacko's attention if he was pictured as the ace of spades on a new deck of cards.

They have been depending on the USA to protect them but now there is talk of pulling out troops out of SK. Interestly and along the 'arms race' theme, Japan is now opening discussing the need for its own nuke weapons and general military buildup.

The fact of the matter is to save most of the U.S. left coast, Seoul might have to be sacrficed - it's that simple. I don't even like bringing up the fact that yes, hundreds of thousands could die before it even reaches a television in the United States. North Korea is not one of those situations where diplomacy (give and take) is going to work if the problem is going to be solved. North Korea has to GIVE up its nuclear program, period - it's that simple. If it does not, it's not going to be pretty...

For national security reasons we may someday need to turn all of North Korea into a smoking hole. This guy learned the wrong lesson from the Iraqi conflict.

Should I jump in a pine box now? Is it all over? Damn, no more American Idol. How's this: based on any of your scenarios, every square inch of the USA becomes a radioactive dump. 300 million Americans are forced to become refugees. They head north to Canada, and south to Mexico and beyond. We bring American know-how and values to these areas (that is, we don't just sit around in the refugee camps, eating sand.) Next thing ya know, free enterprise and the American way of life spring up north and south of us. Life goes on, and world is better for it.
