Faulty seals between a sewage drain and water pipes enabled the ill man to spread the virus when he used the bathroom - eventually infecting 324 people in the complex, officials said.

His diarrhea got into the drinking water pipes. That is disgusting, even without SARS.

You want a real scare, look at the WHO reports on the plumbing systems in Kathmandu, Nepal. Every disease known to man intermingles in the wastewater and "fresh" water systems.

No, the sewage and water pipes didn't mix. Rather, a bit of sewage leaked past the pipes' seals.
