"if the midwest, a solid, Republican, conservative base, is mired in layoffs and a declining economy it will bolt and vote elsewhere.

We share much in common with these folks and, as I said up top, the President and Rove neglects them at their own risk."

Where will they vote? For the same Union thugs who f*cked them out of the jobs they just lost? For Democrats? It is about GD time people realized that the economy is cyclical and that whomever is in the office of the President is not responsible for their expenditures.

That said, I as out of work, too, but I made sure that I have more than one skill and I will find something else.

The Salters need to suck it up and go to work at Walmart for the time being.

Reread the article, most of the businesses offering $6.50/hr are not hiring these highly skilled workers because they know that recently laid off workers will leave as soon as they're recalled. That's a tough nut to be in.

(Also, just to prove I'm not all doom and gloom, I'm convinced that the airplane building business will turn around as soon as Boeing retools for 70 and 90 seat regional jets. However, it's going to be a couple of years before this happens).

Wow, you're totally on. It's not my responsibility to make sure they are solvent when it's clear they've been overliving their finances. How can you make as much as they have and not be ready to live through a spot of trouble? Cut up the d@mned credit cards, buy a used car and stop whining already.

I seriously doubt WalMart has any openings in the greater Witchita area at the moment. What they really need to do, and it's hard, is to move where there are at least some jobs. Given the growth in local school district enrollments, twice what was expected according to a report on the radio today, somebody or several somebodies, in San Antonio are hiring. Probably not $20+/hour, but then again housing and other living expenses are lower here also. BTW, I think a $187,000 house in ex-urban Withchita must have been fairly upscale, which probably makes it that much harder to sell in the current market.

It is about GD time people realized that the economy is cyclical

The "business cycle" which is really nailing us down works like this:

Democrats are elected, they add regulations and laws to the system

Republicans are elected, they leave intact nearly everything the Democrats just did

Democrats are elected, they add regulations and laws to the system

Republicans are elected, they leave intact nearly everything the Democrats just did

Democrats are elected, they add regulations and laws to the system

Republicans are elected, they leave intact nearly everything the Democrats just did

Repeat until economic collapse occurs.
