2. Fritz Hollings (SC) - Whether Hollings retires or not, the GOP is likely to pick up this seat

Given the death of his daughter the other day, I'd find it hard to imagine him running again.

While I would definitely not say Hollings would use his daughter's death to his advantage in a Senate race, you can be certain the Phlegmocrats see his daughter's death as a boon to landing a sympathy vote in S.C.

Hollings- I'd be shocked if he ran again, given his age and the tragedy. He'll delay announcing for a little so as to not cause Dems to panic, but when he does, they will. I'm hoping B. Graham will see the writing on the wall, minority status for a while, and retire.

He has, indeed, had a string of unfortunate deaths in his family, with two brothers and now a daughter.

Probably best for everyone if he retires.
