[history]
Stanislaus County District Attorney James Brazelton said Wednesday he thinks Laci Peterson is the woman whose body was found this week along San Francisco Bay.
"I feel pretty strongly it is (her)," the county's top prosecutor said. "It's too much of a coincidence to have a female and a baby found close to each other a day apart and no others were reported missing. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on it."

I hope they have Scott in custody or he's dead.

that gruesome topic has been discussed ad nauseum in numerous threads.

Hoping you haven't eaten breakfast, it involves the build up and expulsion of gasses in a decomposing corpse. I've heard it referred to as "coffin birth".

Can someone explain to me how a dead woman can birth a baby? She was less than one month to term. Decomposing body produces gases that produce a "dry birth". And no, I am not a CSI, I just watch TV.....

Tick Tock Tick Tock, Scott. Hopefully this will solve the mystery of this case. I wonder how it will affect the case if DNA matching isn't conclusive on the adult body. It appears that there will still be a bunch of work yet to send Scott to the gurney for his last cocktail. Let's hope it wraps up soon.

You're right.
It is possible for a pregnant woman's baby to be found relatively intact and separated from the mother a few months after the woman's death, forensic scientists said. A phenomenon known as "coffin birth" causes gas from the decomposing mother to expel the baby, said Dr. Patrick Besant-Matthews, a former coroner in Seattle; Anchorage, Alaska; New Orleans and Dallas. "Babies generally are fairly sterilized when they're inside the mom, so very often babies don't decompose in the same way as an adult," he said.
Ugh.

I have not been following this issue up to this point and have read none of the other threads on this topic describing the matter.
Been too focussed on the war and its aftermath.

Easy; once the woman's body deteriorates in the water so that the skin and uterine tissues break down sufficiently, the infant's body is released to float away on its own.

Is this the reason for the so-called Y incision which is made at the time a mortician is preparing a body for viewing?

Not sure but I'd think embalming would make such an incision unnecessary for that purpose.
I stopped reading these discussions a couple days ago because they were too morbid and now I'm caught up in it. I hope you won't mind if this is my last post on the subject. A beautiful woman and her baby ending up like this, whoever the culprit, is entirely too sad.

Some facts that don't think have been made public, to which I am privy, is that Snotty didn't know what bait he had used when fishing. Now we all forget things, but no fishermen ever forgot what kinda bait he was using when fishing. It is critical to every fishing story and also critical to know when you don't catch anything. Also none of his fishing gear was even wet or damp.
My theory- Laci found out about the affair, told SP it was over and for him to move out after Xmas. Like the coeds he murdered before when they rejected him, he grabbed Laci from behind in the kitchen and she fought back valiantly even after he punched her in the stomach. It wasn't planned for that exact moment, but Snott had been thinking murderous thoughts ever since the beginning of the pregnancy and when LP had started to become scared of him and seen his capacity for volence, he moved into a planning stage. Then when she told him to move out, it was either do it then or become a far more obvious suspect.
Hope the authorities have a gps trace on him.
