I suspect the term "loyal opposition" was coined to shame the dissenters into some show of patriotism. But if the spark of love for the homeland cannot be fanned into a burning desire to protect it with all your heart and soul, then there should be some mechanism by which the assumed citizenship may be stripped away, and the recalcitrant ones be shown the exit sign.

Wasn't there a tale, set sometime in the early part of the 19th Century, about a person who cursed the United States, and wanted nevermore to hear about the United States. He was set on board a ship, and doomed to sail forever, never to read anything of the US, or set foot ashore in any US port. Philip Marlow, was that the name of that unfortunate soul?

; that they would wish the nation ill simply for their own political benefit is unthinkable.

Probably the same thing happened in Maryland to its first Republican Governor in 35 years by the overwhelmingly Dem state legislature. During the recently ended legislative session, the Dems seemed much more interested in obstructing Ehrlich than in promoting the good of the state.

The Democrats have been bankrupt of ideas and bereft of principles other than self-interest since at least 1968. That's when the old "New Deal" mindset started to die off. And instead of coming up with a new approach, the Democrats have reverted to fear-mongering and race-baiting. It's about time most people have woken up to this, and I certainly hope this is the case.

The trouble for the Democrats is, even if we don't know what's good for us, Americans are beginning to recognize what's not good for us, and at the top of the list is that hodgepodge of socialist dogma and deceit the Democrats try to pass off as American values.

...to God's ear.

What an unseemly bunch, vicious, spiteful, ungracious…wishing the nation ill just so they can regain power. And for what? To implement the failed and deadly socialism that has failed everywhere it's been tried. But that's the politics they've chosen, so let them rot in their mess

The jig is up.

Actually out-of-power politicians need to be, or at least to pretend to be, a loyal opposition for the sake of their party as well as their country. Clearly it does their party no good to be perceived as a gang of greedy partisan opportunists.

When events force the members of a political party into exile, such as happened to the Republicans after Watergate, they are best served by biding their time until their opponents screw up and afford them another opportunity.

The Republicans as a whole behaved well after Watergate--in fact, they allowed themselves to be victimized and hardly complained. But Jimmy Carter was such a bad president that the Republicans only had to wait 4 years until they regained the White House.

Sooner or later, the party in power screws up, and their opponents have a chance to come back into office. The problem with this generation of Democrats, however, is that they care no more for their party or for their principles than they do for their country. They want POWER and they want it NOW.

They are typical yuppies who lack patience and have short attention spans. They want what they feel in their hearts they are entitled to, and they want it now.

I whole-heartedly agree, but Rush has been saying this for quite some time now (verbatim). I feel the need to give credit where its properly due.

The Democratic primaries are going to be bloody. But if a pro-war candidate wind, look out:

"I would have done everything Bush did -I agreed with him against my party, remember? But I also would have done more to preventing the looting. Now, back to domestic policy: It's still the economy, stupid." (repeat 1,000 times)
