Hillary's Quandary: Which Bush to Challenge

Whether she runs for the White House in 2004 or 2008, it looks as if there's a Bush in Hillary Clinton's future.

"If Jeb is in the mix [for the 2008 nomination] it's his," a top GOP official tells U.S. News & World Report this week. Equally certain, say insiders, is the fact that former first lady will make her move in 2008, which could set up another Bush vs. Clinton election.

With the Iraq war's result adding to GOP confidence that President Bush will be re-elected, speculation is now turning to his successor, the magazine says. And Jeb's name is coming up with increasing frequency.

But what if Jeb's brother fails to turn the economy around and the U.S. occupation of Iraq turns sour? "Then Hillary Clinton will run against George instead of Jeb," one Washington watcher tells NewsMax.

Either way, Americans can look forward to another Bush-Clinton contest before the decade is out.

She is going for a Toricelli strategy.

The Clintons are supporting Edwards. If he is nominated, he will either Arkancide or facts will "come out" which make his election impossible, in either case around 10/15/04.

Hillary cannot stand the heat of a real campaign. She has to come in late, take those RAT votes that are fixed (the "base"), and count on sympathy for the rest.

If she cannot engineer the nomination of a loser, she will have to take it herself, in which case the minute she drops in the polls I fully expect X42 to Arkancide, swinging a large sympathy vote to the grieving widow.

Sorry to break the news to you, but here in NYC Hillary is extremely popular. A lot of cars will just put their "Hillary04!" sticker over the "Hillary!" one already on there.

If Hillary ran she would win big, with the possible exception of Rudy Guiliani as an opponent. Understaand that New York, in particular NYC, is of a radically different cutlural mindset that you or I.

The Bush/Gore election map shows that the leftists are the minority. Even Martin Sheen is supporting Dean. If Hitlery were to run I do not believe she would have a chance in hell unless she re-counted and re-counted and re-counted and re-counted and re-counted and re-counted every freaking pregnant chad vote to steal her way in. And this is old Gore news she would have to steal the election in some fresh way. Like the abandonment of the electoral college bill, she is working on.

Not only to mention that, there is also the fact that a large segment of the populace would be more than a little creeped out by it.

A Jeb Bush candidacy in 2008 would raise hackles all over the place. Nobody wants dynastic rulers in the United States, and this would whip up a tremendous amount of suspicion and paranoia about whether our country still had a freely-elected government. Frankly, the Democrats' best hope for winning in 2008 might just be to have Jeb Bush as their opponent; they could ride that fear all the way into the White House regardless of the condition of the economy or any foreign policy considerations.

That doesn't mean Jeb Bush can never become President, just that he can't immediately follow his brother in office. A Jeb Bush candidacy in 2012 or 2016, especially if he's had some seasoning in the U.S. Senate, is quite feasible. Then it becomes a novelty rather than a dynasty.

Understand NY only started supporting the war in the polls (and then only by the slimmest of margins) after we had achieved total victory and we had pictures of Iraqis welcoming us as liberators.

And this is the 9/11 city. New Yorkers are nuts.

I don't know that it will work (although Katie, Oprah, and Wolf Blitzer will be shovelling like mad to see that it does).

I do know that if Hillary! uncloaks too early, she will be destroyed. She must come in late, and I'm sure she knows it.

It's only a question of who has to be gotten out of the way, and how.
