I regard Lincoln as America's Saviour, in much the same way that Christ was Mankind's Saviour. I'm a southernor who happens to appreciate Lincoln. But that comparison, especially during Holy Week, is simply repulsive.

Nonsense.

I take second place to nobody in my respect for President Lincoln. But having said that I also realize that Lincoln was only human, with weaknesses and failings just like the rest of us. He was a man who was thrust into a situation not of his making and rose to the occasion, who followed the path he thought was right, and did what was necessary to carry those beliefs through to completion. Some of his actions I don't fully agree with. And to attribute his presence to divine intervention is not called for. IMHO, of course.

You sad that already Corin.
I don't care if you do not like it. The words of the Second Inaugural are quite extraordinary.
Besides, if you believed in God so much, then you could never be on the Confederate side, which embodied slavery, a perversion of all that is good and just.
Save the religious moralizing for others. The man who wrote the conclusion to the Second Inaugural saved this country from EVIL itself, just as this President is doing again.
