It looks like it is you, Grand Old Partisan, Walt, and me against these neo-confederates. We're kind of outnumbered.

Just as Lincoln said at the Cooper Union,

"Lets have faith that right makes might; and in that faith let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it."

I regard Lincoln as America's Saviour, in much the same way that Christ was Mankind's Saviour.

The History Channel is running this 2 hour show on "April, 1865" from the book of the same title. The author's theme is that the United States is the --only-- nation throughout history to ever go through a revolution and come out stronger than before. And it was Grant and Sherman who were the main agent's of dead Lincoln's policy of "malice towards none, and charity for all," that made it possible.

Robert E. Lee is also quoted as saying that he surrendered as much to Lincoln's good as he did to Grant's army.

Those that attack President Lincoln's memory either hate the United States and what it stands for or they don't know the history.

Walt

Jefferson Davis refused to act outside the bounds of the Confederate Constitution, and it brought his government to ruins.

Jefferson Davis believed that the constitution meant what he said it meant, and would brook no interference from something as potentially limiting as a supreme court. That's why he never appointed one, even though his constitution required it.

Careful when you paint Abe with same brush as Christ. Careful.

The U.S. Government was 90-years-old, the CSA government less than a year old.

Funny how you have a problem with Davis violating a constitution you never considered valid.

So were our brave forces in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. We, too, shall emerge victorious from this.

Very true.

Several Confederates who knew the depths of Lincoln's goodness were said to have wept when they heard of his death. They knew that he was irreplacable.

It's incredible that extremists and fools continue to attack Lincoln. Without him, the American flag would have been ripped asunder or defiled by the evil of slavery.

How can anyone criticize the man who saved our flag from such a fate?

1) Because your shtick is getting OLD here and no one wants to read it anymore.

2)Get a 'cojones' test by seeing if you're able to say as easily in person to the author that which you so readily claim here.

Obviously Davis shared our opinions of the confederate constitution, too.

I'm a southernor who happens to appreciate Lincoln. But that comparison, especially during Holy Week, is simply repulsive.

but what was the most prominent end result of the US civil war? The end of Slavery - right?

NO

The most prominent result was the one that Lincoln said was the reason he waged the war for

THE PRESERVATION OF THE UNION

I'm merely quoting what many theologians pointed out after Lincoln's death. Many took great note of the fact that the President was assassinated on Good Friday.

I strongly believe that Lincoln was a Heavenly Gift to this country. In fact, Lincoln, something of a free thinker, when pressed about Emancipation, was said to have looked skyward and said he was under orders and could not do otherwise.

Imagine if he said that today. :)

I'm not embarrassed to assert that Lincoln saved this country from countless evils. There must have been something that impelled the man to send countless hundreds of thousands to their deathes.

Then don't read it.

If DiLusional ever shows up here then I promise you that I'll take his comedy show in. However, since we have respectable universities here, I doubt he'll be appearing at any of them any time soon.

I suspect it's both.

Is that tagline supposed to be funny, or a reflection of your hatred of Lincoln. It isn't funny, and if you hate Lincoln, may I suggest DemocratsUnderground?
