CANBERRA, Australia (CNN) -- For Australian Prime Minister John Howard nothing succeeds quite like success.
The conservative Australian leader's decision to commit 2,000 troops, plus warships and aircraft, to action in a war in the Persian Gulf seemed to be a major political gamble.

After a year & a half, it may be too early. I've seen all the polling in Australia in the last few days, but the talk of a snap election got me intrigued.
From what I'm gathering, the ALP (Australian Labor Party) is tearing itself apart and if Howard dropped the writ, the Lib-Nat coalition would kick Crean's tail. Heck, the ALP even wants to bring back their twice-defeated leader over this guy! Sheesh.
Attention all FReepers from Australia!

Totally off topic, but did you know that only about 1,000 people contribute to keep Free Republic up and running? That is out of over 100,000 registered users on this site. So with only about $2,600 dollars to go to meet this quarter's goal, I am going to post the following and hope that those who might read this thread will send a couple bucks FR's way.
What would you do Without Free Republic?

Insight into world affairs, brilliant wit, sharp retorts, instant information gratification are a few of the things that make FR so vital.
How would you keep on top of things without FR?
How would you know who to contact to complain about the lying politicians, Media Bias, Hollyweirds latest mouth off, sponsors of these idiots, company policies that are unfair and all the other things we need to know to counteract the liberal mindset and the evil plans of liberals?
How would you be part of a Freep?

God I wish we had a Hudson Valley Chapter (and if we do, why didn't anyone tell me!!!???)
I'm currently under age 20, so starting a chapter of my own would be a stretch work-load wise.
But we're way off topic, not that anyone noticed...
FR is making inroads every day to defeat the left, and we have to keep fighting the good fight.
When I first got here 4 years ago (ignore the sign up date, my original name was MaineRepublican), people talked of our little protest FReeps (and even until recently)....
"Hey we had a great turn out!"
"How many showed up?"
"40."
40!? That's it? I know people have lives, as do I, but we're the PREMIER CONSERVATIVE FORUM. The more numerous we are, the more we will make ourselves heard.
We have to really start making more connections if we haven't already made them. Get in touch with other conservative groups. Friendly coalitions are good! The right must be fully united to defeat the left, though we are doing a good job as it is now.
Onward FReepers!

Why yes, I'm quite young :) I will gladly accept your pride in me as a badge of honor!
My dedication to FR is sincere, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure we have made a difference.
