Gee...sounds like the theme of the Democratic Party...if you don't like the vote, it's a do-over.

"Without relief from the government, the airline industry and airline employees are facing an extremely uncertain future," said Ward.

I hate to say it, but I don't see the airlines surviving without government intervention either. Not that that there's anything wrong with that....

"STEWARDESSES"

The Waitress In the Sky.

Well before 9/11, I accidently called a stewardess - a waitress - during a flight. By her enraged reaction, you would have thought I was a leathal threat to the aircraft. It was only by the Grace of God that she didn't throw me out of the plane...

I happen to think that there is something wrong with that. The government doesn't provide me with back-up money if I can't make it on my own. I also can't give myself a raise if I don't increase my profit(without government help).

"Please forgive my short verbage and tone, but why do you find any part of this situation, funny?"

Because once again the "unions" that almighty pillar of American life (allegedly) put their "members" ahead of the entire corporation. The Board of Directors for AMR suck. But at the last minute everyone came to the conclusion and developed a plan to AVOID bankruptcy. But the one union and their membership decided to commit hari-kari. So be it. I find it amusing that the people who think like dinosaurs are about to find out why dinosaurs are extinct. If you don't like this form of capitalism, I would suggest moving to France, where the government "rescues" any failing enterprise. No matter how high they have to raise taxes to keep the failing enterprise in business.

"If the company declares bankruptcy, it could result in another 8 to 10 thousand job losses."

Darwin's principle of capitalist economics still applies.

GOOD! Let them file! The sooner they file, the sooner we can ship Carty one-way back to Canada to live the rest of his days off of his bonuses.

I fly AA all the time and find the majority of their Flight Attendants rude and mean. Their service sucks. Maybe if they go bankrupt they can hire some decent customer service people who actually enjoy working for the airlines and not a bunch of union hags that are allowed to treat the customer any way the like.

Their jobs are easy now because they don't have to serve and pick up dirty dishes anymore. Picking up a Bistro Bag leftover and serving canned drinks is all they do in coach. I realize they are trained for safety, but they can practice a little service-orientation.

So the Stewardesses would rather have nothing than 90%? Sounds like a lot of "Conservatives" on this site come election time.

"Oh, don't worry. The federal government will save them from having to compete in the marketplace."

Not this time. The articles about executive bonus programs has basically killed any prayer of bailouts now. Capitalism will function properly. And the two airlines partially responsible for 9-11 will pay their dues finally. I feel sorry for the families of the victims though. Now their lawsuits will be tossed out by the bankruptcy courts. They are the only ones I feel sorry for.

Is the WNBA about to go belly up?

Well the league would already be "belly up" if it wasn't subsidized by the NBA. At this point in time, since their collective bargaining agreement expired last September 15th, the players felt this was a great time to hold out for more perks such as free agency. Unfortunately, for them, they are completely out of touch with the economic reality in 2003. I believe they have a deadline to reach a labor agreement by this Friday (the sides don't seem remotely close) or the next season will be canceled.

Would anyone notice if the WNBA season were cancelled?

I concur. In about 2 years, we will have the leanest and most efficient air travel system in the world. After Delta and Northwest bite the big one, of course.

If true, Tommie Da$$hole will be deeply troubled by this.

His wife, Linda, the big time lobby person in DC, gets a lot of money from AA!

I should have to pay for this with my tax dollars? I don't think so. They can either learn to run a business or go bankrupt.
