You have got to be kidding. Southwest is only pleasurable if you like riding in a cattle car. Also, they board by the order you arrive, not by loading from the back of the plane first. So you get traffic jams in the aisle.

Other than the boarding order, how is this different than any other 737 flight you have been on? I fly exclusively on Alaska airlines and it's the same thing only they call row numbers. There are still idiots on every flight who think they own the aisle. Oh, and depending on the gate person calling the flight, it'll load front to back or back to front.

Should I have one of my grandchildren help you with reading post# 182 or is it too deep for you?

Saving jobs? Why doesn't Mr. Carty quit? Usually if the CEO can't manage a company, they are booted. Why won't he resign? I'd have some respect for him then.

Just how many jobs could he save on just his perks, bonuses, stock and pay alone?

If you know him, why don't you call him up and ask him to show you what his tax filings look like? I mean, if he's such a nice guy, he should be honest with you, right?

I've been saying for years that the advent of broadband was going to kill the airlines. More meetings by videoconference means fewer business passengers up front; fewer businessmen up front paying the big bucks means higher fares for the people in back. Higher fares in back makes demand for seats in back go down - fewer travelers, more unsold seats - the business model collapses.

OK, so it wasn't broadband, it was terrorism. Effect is the same - I have replaced 50% of my business trips with telecons, driving and travel by train. Trying to figure out airfare restrictions today hurts my head. This business model can't, won't and shouldn't survive.

You moron. You said "1. Federal background checks of all security employees.
2. Federally approved training regimines were not enforced by the FAA nor the airlines. The FAA was understaffed and could only "test" selected airports. The airlines often rotated their best personnel when members of Congress tipped them off that inspections were pending.'

What did any of this have to do with the hijackings of 9/11? I never argued these points. What I said was that the hijackers brought onto the airplanes FAA approved weapons. What do you think the screeners were supposed to do? This the blame for this disaster goes to the government not the airlines.

Sorry, man, it already passed the House and Senate and went to President Bush.

Thanks. I remember reading an article about Jet Blue where the owner was quoted as saying "One way he keeps costs down is by having no union members working for him. He says he takes care of his employees, and they don’t need a shop steward.

As for Southwest, I thought they had a similar set-up....or some contract that didn't allow for the type of nonsense that other unions give out.

Seriously...Go book a flight on American, pick a 737 or MD-80. Then come back here and try to look me in the keyboard (with a straight face) and tell me that there isn't a lot more legroom.

I fly on Alaska too... American's coach seating has more legroom than Alaska's "first-class".

Just play with the chads, Mr. Carty. Do whatever is in your best interest, right?

Well, it won't be anytime soon as American doesn't fly out of Anchorage to anywhere I want to go. Plus they cost more to go where I don't want to go. But, I'll take your word for it. If that additional inch or two makes it less like a cattle car for you, great.

For the record: I'm 6'2" and never feel scrunched on Alaska Airlines.

You're just a stinking Democrat. You hate management, right?

The Board thinks he can manage AMR just fine, and he can. He's got much better relations with the unions than Crandall ever did.

Carty's not going to resign, and there's no reason for him to.

That "how many jobs could we save if the boss just took a lower salary" is a tired, old Democrat line, and you should be ashamed of promoting it on FR.

I guess you think Bush's tax cut if just for the rich, right?

Less seats, less revenue. No wonder they're in trouble.

Have you actually read about this "generous financial offer"???? It is 1 million dollars. Payable over 20 years. Not tax free. That averages about $32,000 per year. If your wife or husband was earning $125,000 per year, do you think that is really fair?

Of course it's not fair. If I died tomorrow, all my wife gets is a life insurance policy and whatever we've got in savings.

Life's not fair, is it?

Hoping to hit the lottery after someone's untimely death is greedy, AFAIC.

Sorry to sound callous, but

1)Why should they get more than the family of a serviceman who actually volunteers for his country and dies in battle?

2) Charities collected billions to help the victims of 9-11. Why is the government paying even a single dime?

3) Two words: "life insurance." Any of us may die at any time, it's our responsibility to provide for our own families, not the government's. A terrorist attack is no excuse for leaving your family financially vulnerable.

That's what I LOVE about unions.. Yeah-boy!

Always ready to drive a company bankrupt rather than admit their wages and benefits are excessive.

Always ready to hurt as many people as they can on their way down and call it "fair"

Because, obviously since someone who spends their day saying: "coffie, tea or milk?" can't afford a lear jet and a summer home then someone else, somewhere else is taking more than their "fair share" of the profits!

No, as a vet this always chaffed my rear.

"2) Charities collected billions to help the victims of 9-11. Why is the government paying even a single dime?"

Because the opportunistic idiots who are politicians offered it. Personally speaking, the airlines and the CEO's should pay since their corporations were ultimately responsible.

"3) Two words: "life insurance." Any of us may die at any time, it's our responsibility to provide for our own families, not the government's. A terrorist attack is no excuse for leaving your family financially vulnerable."

NO disagreement there. But to the window washer who earns $24,000 per year or janitor who makes $30,000 per year, life insurance is a distant thought. I do have some compassion as does W. My anger is not with the payout or having to force some life insurance policies to pay out (Allstate tried to use the "war" clause as an out to avoid paying families). My anger is with the absolute lack of criminal prosecution of the executives and bureaucrats who allowed this to happen.

Sounds like they believe all the tripe that the Clinton Era Democrats fed them, that "the era of the woman has arrived."

Will Hillary be able to save them? >>sniff, sniff<<

Please get a hold of yourself.

When a CEO drives a company into bankruptcy...hasta luego is usually how it goes. Mr. Carty should be ashamed. How about an equal sacrifice across the board? Go and do the math and see for yourself what each employee still left with a job is giving up.

You demonstrate that you will not answer my questions with anything but name-calling.

It is my belief that "leaders" must lead by example.
