You have got to be kidding. Southwest is only pleasurable if you like riding in a cattle car. Also, they board by the order you arrive, not by loading from the back of the plane first. So you get traffic jams in the aisle.

Other than the boarding order, how is this different than any other 737 flight you have been on? I fly exclusively on Alaska airlines and it's the same thing only they call row numbers. There are still idiots on every flight who think they own the aisle. Oh, and depending on the gate person calling the flight, it'll load front to back or back to front.

I've been saying for years that the advent of broadband was going to kill the airlines. More meetings by videoconference means fewer business passengers up front; fewer businessmen up front paying the big bucks means higher fares for the people in back. Higher fares in back makes demand for seats in back go down - fewer travelers, more unsold seats - the business model collapses.

OK, so it wasn't broadband, it was terrorism. Effect is the same - I have replaced 50% of my business trips with telecons, driving and travel by train. Trying to figure out airfare restrictions today hurts my head. This business model can't, won't and shouldn't survive.

What did any of this have to do with the hijackings of 9/11? I never argued these points. What I said was that the hijackers brought onto the airplanes FAA approved weapons. What do you think the screeners were supposed to do? This the blame for this disaster goes to the government not the airlines.

Thanks. I remember reading an article about Jet Blue where the owner was quoted as saying "One way he keeps costs down is by having no union members working for him. He says he takes care of his employees, and they don’t need a shop steward.

As for Southwest, I thought they had a similar set-up....or some contract that didn't allow for the type of nonsense that other unions give out.

Have you actually read about this "generous financial offer"???? It is 1 million dollars. Payable over 20 years. Not tax free. That averages about $32,000 per year. If your wife or husband was earning $125,000 per year, do you think that is really fair?

Of course it's not fair. If I died tomorrow, all my wife gets is a life insurance policy and whatever we've got in savings.

1)Why should they get more than the family of a serviceman who actually volunteers for his country and dies in battle?

2) Charities collected billions to help the victims of 9-11. Why is the government paying even a single dime?

3) Two words: "life insurance." Any of us may die at any time, it's our responsibility to provide for our own families, not the government's. A terrorist attack is no excuse for leaving your family financially vulnerable.

No, as a vet this always chaffed my rear.

Because the opportunistic idiots who are politicians offered it. Personally speaking, the airlines and the CEO's should pay since their corporations were ultimately responsible.

NO disagreement there. But to the window washer who earns $24,000 per year or janitor who makes $30,000 per year, life insurance is a distant thought. I do have some compassion as does W. My anger is not with the payout or having to force some life insurance policies to pay out (Allstate tried to use the "war" clause as an out to avoid paying families). My anger is with the absolute lack of criminal prosecution of the executives and bureaucrats who allowed this to happen.

When a CEO drives a company into bankruptcy...hasta luego is usually how it goes. Mr. Carty should be ashamed. How about an equal sacrifice across the board? Go and do the math and see for yourself what each employee still left with a job is giving up.
