No surprises here. Even when I was in top physical shape, an abusive ex-spouse could take me down with one arm.

That's why I advocate gun ownership and gun safety classes for women - the "great equalizer." .45MAN and I took an armed self-defense class - another strong recommendation for women interested in self defense.

It's a well-known fact that women can (and do) outshoot men.

That's what I've heard, but on my first attempt last fall, I couldn't hit the target from 20 feet away.....but I got the brick supporting the target real good! : )

I have taught several hunred people how to shoot.
About 40% of them have been women.
I would say that almost 100% of the time, women are better natural shots than men - so long as care has been taken prior to firing live rounds to make damned sure they are not afraid of the gun.
I have been shooting for 25 years now.
I have been in the situation of having a first-time female shooter I have taught VASTLY outperform my pistol accuracy inside of her first four magazines.
Pleasing, and humiliating, all at once.

I saw .45man had pinged you. If you hadn't posted that, I was about to.

I've been to the range with dansangel and 45man. She fails to boast for herself, so I'll do it for her. I took them to the range for their first trip to try out rifles (they were already accomplished with pistols). 45man did quite well for a first-time, but dansangel was, by the end of the day, shooting about as well as me. And I'm no match winner, but do more than OK.

Some good women do outshoot men. It's just that there are not that many of them. Look at shooting competitions. How many women show up, and how many win (outside of women's special categories)? For example, look at 2002 Bianchi Cup final scores.

Well, I'm glad someone finally made the point of gun ownerships and marksmanship! If a woman has to rely on martial arts, her attacker has ALREADY gotten too close (same for mace and pepper spray).
I advocate staying out of threatening places, staying alert staying armed and use the 30 seconds/30 yards rule and take action (leave enough time to exit a potential threat before it gets close), But keep the firearm for a back up.

After having been at MCRD PISC I disagree. Every time a female company qualed the amount of failures was easily 2 to 3 times at the rate of the males.

I've taught many shooting classes with about an equal mix of both men and women, and I would qualify and rephrase your above statement.

It isn't so much that women "outshoot" men, but more a case that an untrained woman can be trained easier than an untrained man. I can teach a woman to shoot in less time and fewer rounds than a man, but it doesn't take that long for the men to catch up with the woman. Beyond the level of a beginner I would say it is pretty much a wash, with men and women having the same average natural ability at punching holes in paper. They just have different learning curves.

I will add that there are tactical shooting scenarios where clear cognitive differences between genders are evident but that has less to do with the simple act of shooting accurately itself.
