A novel viewpoint on British colonialism that is somewhat relevant to our current circumstance.
I am not a non-interventionist, but I do believe circumspection is certainly warranted in Iraq and elsewhere.

Theodore Dalrymple (real name Anthony Daniels) is one of the best conservative writers working today. The guy is an inexhaustible fount of knowledge, and he has such a felicitous and lucid literary style.
I don't know why he uses the pseudonym, but I have read somewhere that he writes under both names. As Daniels he's a practicing psychiatrist, I believe, so perhaps he reserves the use of his real name for professional papers and such.

Thank you for posting this article! Wonderful and thought-provoking. The writer's style reminds me of Orwell.

Why did colonialism "work" in India?
India seems to suffer a similar disease to Africa: the belief that government work is the best work. And yet India has managed to remain relatively civilized and ruled by law. Furthermore, it has recently been moving towards capitalism.
