I've read that he was a chopper pilot. As to being a ranger, he might have been to Ranger School and thus been allowed to have the Ranger tab on his uniform. I get the impression from observing him that he wants to be a decent guy. Bad company, though, can corrupt good morals. Have you heard what he supposedly chose as his epitaph?
