Every single time one of these stories comes over the wire the usual group shows up, runs around screaming and vows to vote for their goldfish over Bush. It almost never turns out to be the truth, and I say "almost" even though I can't think of a single time these fainting goats have been right.

I can tell by the title that this is another phony scare thread. Anyone who really cared about the issue would want to change the president's mind, not smear him by tying him to Clinton. That's classic Demorcat dirty trickery.

I have done none of that. I have expressed concern and resolve to impact them prior to the expiration date and continue to advocate strongly that we vote for W et al because we have no choice. If the White House comes out and squashes this story fine...please ping me but I see no political magic on W and Rove's part letting this story run unopposed especially after Ashcroft said essentially the opposite just 2 months ago.

The following is straight from W's spokesman's mouth. Are you saying it was unauthorized? W is not Clinton. He does not parse nor play poll testing to my knowledge. This was a shot across the NRA's bow and a broadside to the GOA.

"The president supports the current law, and he supports reauthorization of the current law," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told Knight Ridder.

Not an anonymous quote from a staffer. Why they wish to agitate their base right now beats me unless this is in fact their policy.
