Well, you know...we can't have "the people" running around with these "assault books." Obviously, the First Amendment was really about the right of the states to write things about the federal government. :-)
To: Mulder
Well, I suppose it seems possible. And Bush has proven to be quite the fox. But still, my uninformed gut simply says this bill stays exactly where it is. Love to see it otherwise. Would make some great ammo go use against my soon-to-be disarmed state of Illinois.
To: diamond6
, , , why people should own assault weapons? .
It has always been my position that we should be able to own any weapon that might be used against us. That gets us to flame throwers and tanks (Waco).

Anyone who really cared about the issue would want to change the president's mind, not smear him by tying him to Clinton. That's classic Demorcat dirty trickery I have done none of that. I have expressed concern and resolve to impact them prior to the expiration date and continue to advocate strongly that we vote for W et al because we have no choice. If the White House comes out and squashes this story fine...please ping me but I see no political magic on W and Rove's part letting this story run unopposed especially after Ashcroft said essentially the opposite just 2 months ago.

Clinton won because of "read my lips" and a 1989 gun ban by Bush from out of the blue. You are right, and for Bush to break his campaign promise to "support existing gun law" would give the Dems all the ammo they need to compare him to Daddy.
Let the House kill this ban.

He supports the "AW". That's real soft. The only reason I didn't call him an anti was because of the UN Small arms stuff.

No problem. I could always change my name to "M-14" to make sure that everyone knows where I stand. Man, I would like to have a M-14...

Lots of criminals have rights that supercede the rights of victims that they harm. I'm not thrilled about the interpretations of the rights we have when those interpretations end up allowing guilty people go free, when there's no question they should be convicted.

didn't we go through this with the ballistics database back during the sniper thing? bush gave it lip service, then dropped it entirely, and no one noticed.
i predict he does the same with the AWB. having studied his father's loss, he knows a little something about pissing off your base.
bush is being clintonesque, in that he's giving lip service to an idea he doesn't believe in for a second.

Either you are seriously misinformed, or deliberately misleading.
When exactly were flame throwers used at Waco?

So, are you going to wait the year and a half for this bill to come up for renewal before you put that foot down? Funny how the usual folks display the usual indignation when provoked by the usual BS.BS? Don't step in it Debbie.
I have witnessed nationwide lawlessness created by an invasion of millions of illegal aliens while President Bush and the rest of our so-called leaders, stand by and watch this epic crisis continue to escalate, at the same time our second amendment is being chipped away incrementally, one small step, one law, one regulation at a time.
After thousands of gun laws, and more being considered daily, I think the goals of government are inordinately clear regarding our second amendment and other issues regarding our very sovereignty.
This are real issues Debbie, and it's really happening, even if you neglected to notice..
To: Dan from Michigan
Bush is going to lose these same 13 voters who show up on every gun related thread to profess they're leaving the party. 13 voters? Try 4-5 million in the NRA, 500,000 in SAF, the members of GOA, and all the non members who vote their guns. No Dan. I am the NRA and the GOA. Most of my friends are also. We'll be voting for George because we're pragmatic. Your 4-5 million number includes me and my friends. My 13 number includes you baker's dozen of absolutists. (at least 8 of whom didn't vote for Bush the first time anyway). Peace
To: diamond6
"Then why do we have laws?"
We should have a law against murder. That way, it would never happen again. Man, keep going. You're funny. In a sick way...

M1A's a fine firearm.
Of course, if this Sb.1195 goes through, Springfield Armory is SOL and will have to leave the state. Sigh...

Dont forget George Sr. allowed ATF to in essence outlaw a lot of previously legal stuff thru bureacratic means
To: Deb
The following is straight from W's spokesman's mouth. Are you saying it was unauthorized? W is not Clinton. He does not parse nor play poll testing to my knowledge. This was a shot across the NRA's bow and a broadside to the GOA.
"The president supports the current law, and he supports reauthorization of the current law," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told Knight Ridder.
Not an anonymous quote from a staffer. Why they wish to agitate their base right now beats me unless this is in fact their policy.

The Mini-14 is a great firearm. Seems to overheat easily, but, yes, the M-14 is a classic.
