Hungover Norwegian pupils to get extra two hours in bed (SOCIALISM GONE MAD ALERT)

Students at a Norwegian school are to be given an extra two hours in bed each morning next month - to help them cope with their hangovers.
A school in Rogaland says students can skip their first two lessons during their celebrations in the run-up to their final exams.
Final year students traditionally spend much of the three weeks before their exams at a series of drunken parties.
Known as the 'RUSS' celebrations, the 18-year-olds party in special buses kitted out with beds, bars and music systems.
But the parties take their toll. Last year there were reports of students falling asleep while their exam papers were being handed out.
Torolv Hellemo, principal of Hetland VGS, told Aftenposten: "If some of the students do not feel well enough to have lessons, it is better for them to arrive at 9.30am.
"It might sound silly, but we have experience in this. It does not mean that we legalise drunkenness, but we are being realistic."
The students usually have two hours of free periods in the middle of the day. During the May celebrations, the school has decided to move those two hours to the start of the day to give them a lie-in if they need one.

Why don't they just eliminate the final exams and make it even more convenient. Getting up for school, among other things, are part of the disciplines which teach you about real life. This is nonsense.

Final year students traditionally spend much of the three weeks before their exams at a series of drunken parties. This is NUTS! Aren't you supposed to celebrate after it's all over?
I can remember my finals, and I was a nervous wreck trying to over-stuff my brain with last minute revision.

Norway has legalized drugs and prostitution?
To: MadIvan
It's a disaster! Our students cannot do the work required of them! There is only one solution: Less work!

Pot has been legal in Norway for over 30 years. Prostitution is not banned in Norway!

Of course, this means that they'll simply party for 2 hours longer than they would have otherwise.

My dad always said if you're going to go out and play with the boys, you have to get up and work with the men. This is why things like picking rock, haling bales, and moving fenceposts were reserved for early sunrise mornings after I was out too late. It made it so I'd have to really think twice about staying out hyper-late, even though I was never given a curfew. "Being Realistic" is a sad, pathetic excuse for accomodating bad behavior.

I don't know, maybe I'm too old-fashioned and too...how shall I put it?--American?...but when I was in college we usually held off on the riotous partying until after finals.

Better yet, why not require the students to sit for the exams as originally scheduled, even if they have a hangover, but give them an extra twenty points towards the final grade as a kind of affirmative action for drunks and druggies.

See my post #12. I don't know if you consider pot a drug. I guess it depends on the person's belief!

According to the Norway Consulate's page:
"All controlled substances are prohibited in Norway. The possession of even small amounts of drugs (e.g. marijuana, hashish) can result in arrest in Norway."

As the mom of a high school senior I feel qualified after reading this to say a loud "
BULL$HIT!"What we are talking here is appeasement. Of teenagers. We are talking about not being willing to set boundaries. We are talking about not wanting to have the backbone to be parents. We are talking about wanting to be "liked" and a "friend" to our teens. Liberals (parents) with poor self-esteem issues.
The poor kids. They are ignorant of the huge disservice that is being done to them by the very ones that are responsible for their well being.

Final year students traditionally spend much of the three weeks before their exams at a series of drunken parties. Is it just me, or would it not seem more "reasonable" to save the drunken orgy "celebration" for after finals? Heck you could have the finals two weeks early, since they clearly aren't studying for them anyway. Then if they want to party hearty, well then, go to it.
