So, you want to institute a system where the weak and elderly are at the mercy of the strong, the lone are at the mercy of the gang. You want to give violent criminals a government guarantee that citizens are disarmed.I would add: "...where women are at the mercy of rapists and perverts..." This tends to bring in the women's votes, being a sort of feminist issue. The "equalizer" argument really works well here.

As a woman and gun owner, I can tell you that usually falls on deaf ears; the majority of women voters are perceived by politicians to be anti-gun. Most women today, particularly suburbanites are staunch anti-gunners despite the fact they lack ANY knowledge on the issue--relying on "experts" such as Rosie O'Donnell to keep them informed. Remember, 'children first'.
Excuse me now, I must go set up my 'Rosie' target.
