Is that the one where some the monsters turn out to be nuked survivors who got thickened "outer skins" from the radiation?

(Can't remember the title either, but the plot sounds familiar.)

Yes, that's the one, and they grew wierd-looking horns, etc. -- "The Day the World Ended" is the name of it. Mike Connors (Mannix) was in it! I was nine then, lived out in the country, and it scared the cr*p out of me... It was actually pretty good, for the genre. Turner Classic ran it a while back, but I missed it; can't find a VHS anywhere.
