Bump for great suspicious minds..I agree!Some antiquities collectors don't care where the stuff comes--as long as *they* know it's authenticated. And it's untraceable cash to those selling.
I do hope they can send some forensic teams into those gov't buildings. They can recover info from charred paper. My worries are about the unrecoverable paper.

As to the museum, it makes absolutely no sense that they would leave those antiquities in a place they thought would be bombed. I suspect the museum was filled with copies already, Saddam's thugs having previously sold them or snuck them outta the country.

As to the orphanage, yes...God bless those sisters. But one thing disturbed me....6, 7 8 year old children in baby beds...a la the post-Iron curtain baby sales. I hope there was nothing wrong in this case, since having the sisters there alleviates my concerns somewhat.
This story should be widely publicized. There are lots and lots of parents looking to adopt and I bet those kids would be swooped up fast as you can say "bye bye Saddam".
