Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

< img src="http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/daseal2.jpg" alt="Army Logo" width="151" height="150" >

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Featured Freepers: An.American.Expatriate for originating the threads, Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Yup, this thread has become one of the memorable threads of FReeper History. Think about it. How many, many new FReeperisms have come to be on this very thread. Some going on to Nat'l/Int'l use !! The regulars on this thread are the ones that know the EXACT beginning of each and every one of them. Can we ever forget the "This Old Bunker Weekend Marathon" with Achmed Vila and Norm Habib? We watched and commented throughout it's entirety. What a memory ! What an experience we shared. All the prayers. All the belly laughs and sprayed screens/keyboards galore.

Those who use the 'junior' word know it's not correct.

They use it as a way to diminish him. or try to. Too bad for them, they can't.

We shouldn't be too eager to take responsibility for things that are not our fault. Maybe stopping to argue about the details is not the thing to do right now, but to me, the whole " Baghdad art museum treasures" thing smells, and I think it should be clear that there are questions about this.

I think many of us agree. We had a hunch there was something hinky about this museum business. And several of us agreed that the finger being pointed at us by the media was unfair. I had an idea "valuables" may have been removed in case of war--several others had guessed the same. Interesting to hear that someone may have stated such was the case.

It is maddening that so many in the press willingly take the propaganda points from the enemy and regurgitate them as if they are fact.

"I did a google and found quite a few news sites that reported that very thing."

Well! Most interesting.

I guess we can't get over the fact that some of the press are the enemy. They really are. I wonder what our next ongoing situation thread will be,,any guesses. Mine is the tax cut debate or maybe the budget or God forbid the next election.

I think there is universal admiratioon for our service men and women,,haven't heard anything but good stuff about them. They are a great generation of young people. I think they just may help this country for a long time to come.

Inside jokes must include:
Belly Girl
He's dead Jim.
Bagcam and Achmed (and his villa)
Soldiergirl's fixations
Ragtime Cowgirl's transcriptions
Poser: 4000?
and one that is no longer an inside joke, Bagdad Bob.

Others?

I didn't know there was a pool. But I won something much sadder. When Barry McDaffrey predicted that there would be up to 3000 casualties taking Baghdad I commented on that on the situation room and predicted it would probably be around 200. It was just a hunch based on some stuff my husband knew and told me. But I wish it had in actuality been zero casualties.
