A nightlight at the end of the hall is a better idea. The rest of my house, other than the confines of the bedrooms, are light enough where I can identify anyone.

Right. It's like Murphy said. Tracers [flashlights] work both ways. I was thinking more of needing to check that your kids are OK, and having the only light source available for this being the one hanging on the end of your muzzle, thus violating the rule "Never point your muzzle at anything you would not be willing to see destroyed".
Much better to have a handgun and separate light.
