'CHEMICAL SHELLS FOUND' |
|
US Marines have discovered 278 artillery shells carrying a substance that tested positive as a blistering agent, senior officers have said.Major Stephen Armes, of the Marines 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, said the shells were found in trailers parked in a schoolyard.
Three were mounted on launchers, he said.
But the battalion commander said more tests were required before any conclusions could be drawn.
Coalition forces have yet to find any evidence of chemical weapons since launching the war in Iraq on March 20.
All the alleged finds have so far turned out to be false upon further analysis.
But military commanders remain confident they will eventually uncover weapons of mass destruction.
They say thousands of sites have to be searched and it is only a matter of time.
"I have not found any that I have absolutely satisfied myself are...weapon of mass destruction materials," Coalition commander General Tommy Franks told reporters.
"But you're talking about 2,000, 3,000 perhaps, places in this country where we know we're going to go and investigate each one of them.
"We may have...somewhere between five and 10 and 15 site exploitations ongoing in a 24-hour period of time."
In some of these cases the testing could take up to three weeks or more, he added.

I think it is reasonable to infer that, with all the possible discoveries, at least one (and possibly many) will turn out to be the real thing. The Pu-239 readings, for example, I don't see how that is going to be explained away.

"I sense that this is false alarm number 673 -- give or take a few. I will wait until Franks et al confirm it, before I get all hot and a bothered." Rest assured - the TRUTH WILL come out!
Chemical warhead at an Iraqi air base, marked with a green band, the symbol for chemical weaponry. Trace amounts of a nerve agent was found in two spots on the ~meter long warhead. The amounts could be consistent with leakage from a chemically armed weapon. A 13-foot missile was found next to it.
BINGO: Truly a "CHEMICAL ALLEY"
Near Basra, British soldiers use chemical agent testing equipment
in a stairwell leading to a flooded room at a building
used by the late Ali Hassan al-Majeed, 'Chemical Ali' .

I agree, but don't know the answer. I asked the same question in #44 of this thread: Rescued POW Lynch arrives in U.S. [Why won't they tell us if she was tortured?]
Fox reported that she was hung by her ankles and beaten, implying that this was how she got the broken legs and arm. She shot a number of attackers until she ran out of ammo and/or was too wounded by gunfire to continue. But then, that's just Fox and I've heard no more confirmation. I'm confident that she did her duty and was tortured later. Nothing else explains those injuries. And I think she deserves some privacy in any event. Let's wait and let her talk about it when she's ready to. If she was gang-raped, a favorite Ba'athist interrogation technique, I'm not sure we need to hear that or that she needs to have that aired to the whole world.

"I tell you what, since I know they're never going to believe this anyway we should take up a collection and let them see it and feel it in person." Some people wouldn't know the truth if it came up and GASSED YOU RIGHT IN THE FACE!
The Blix supporters are out in force today - GOOD - I'll take great pleasure in posting links to this thread in the very near future.

I would like to know what Mr. Blix and his team really did in Irag?

Let's wait and let her talk about it when she's ready to. I agree. Besides, if she was abused in any way, those WV boys will know what to do...

Trace amounts of a nerve agent was found in two spots on the ~meter long warhead.
Oh, a "nerve agent"? Exactly which one? Or haven't there actually been any meaningful tests yet?
The amounts could be consistent with leakage from a chemically armed weapon.
Or they could be consistent with Abdul taking a lead on the shell while on nighttime guard duty. Or they might be explained by any number of other reasons. Do you think that shells are carefully scrubbed and kept clean at pharmaceutical level? I think not. Plenty of chances for contamination from non-WMD sources.
Why not let the real scientists do the work with laboratory equipment? We've got time and no one who matters cares about WMD any more. I know I don't. I never did. I don't think the Iraqis do. The Weasels only pretend to. And, as is abundantly clear, only America and its partners actually matter anyway.
This whole WMD thing is so over. The only way it is still relevant to anyone is if Saddam passed WMD to terrorist groups to use against America.

"This whole WMD thing is so over. The only way it is still relevant to anyone is if Saddam passed WMD to terrorist groups to use against America." If you have any inside information, please report it to the FBI or Secret Service.
I'll gladly provide phone numbers.

The feeling I got from all those stories was that that was a political marriage. She selected him for his talents in attracting people while she was driving the political ambitions. Bill's taste was in luscious, petite women - the scrawny Hillary was hardly that.

I think the FBI is very vigilant against exactly this possibility. It would be consistent with Saddam's personality to pass WMD to terrorists so they could strike America for him.
To: gcochran
Of course, the article says they are carrying a substance.

How do I import a graphic here?
To: gcochran
It might or might not. Can you tell me any blistering agents that wouldn't be in liquid form, and what difference it makes to your argument?
