'CHEMICAL SHELLS FOUND' |
|
US Marines have discovered 278 artillery shells carrying a substance that tested positive as a blistering agent, senior officers have said.Major Stephen Armes, of the Marines 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, said the shells were found in trailers parked in a schoolyard.
Three were mounted on launchers, he said.
But the battalion commander said more tests were required before any conclusions could be drawn.
Coalition forces have yet to find any evidence of chemical weapons since launching the war in Iraq on March 20.
All the alleged finds have so far turned out to be false upon further analysis.
But military commanders remain confident they will eventually uncover weapons of mass destruction.
They say thousands of sites have to be searched and it is only a matter of time.
"I have not found any that I have absolutely satisfied myself are...weapon of mass destruction materials," Coalition commander General Tommy Franks told reporters.
"But you're talking about 2,000, 3,000 perhaps, places in this country where we know we're going to go and investigate each one of them.
"We may have...somewhere between five and 10 and 15 site exploitations ongoing in a 24-hour period of time."
In some of these cases the testing could take up to three weeks or more, he added.

Tommy Franks said this morning, in a live interview with Tony Snow, that he does not believe any WMD's have been moved from Iraq into Syria or anywhere else.
He stated that the military has only checked out 2-3 locations, and have several thousand more possibilities plus possible locations now being pointed out by liberated Iraqis.

False Alarms?
Not one yet.
Each has to undergo further investigation, none have been proven as something other than WMDs any more than they've been confirmed as WMDs.

I will not believe the reports until Baghdad Bob issues statements denying that they are WMD.

"I haven't heard that our military has yet declared any of the stuff found to NOT be WMD." IMHO, the restrained disclosure of information is due to the massive detrimental amounts of evidence AGAINST Russia, Germany, and France (among others).
Russia will get stung more than any of them.

"Is there any doubt a regime as brutal as this has moved the crown jewels of their WMD program to Syria and will eventually use them?" BINGO!
Why do you think Syrai, Russia, Germany, and France are in a state of convulsive preparation for damage control?
Why do you think Rumsfeld and Powell keep targeting announcement to Syria to "give up any harboring of terrorists or WMD?"
The $hit hasn't even begun to hit the fan boys!

Funny you say that, I don't get Fox News and up to Friday evening could honestly say I have never seen a frame of it's broadcast.
Well I needed an car battery charger Friday (in a bad way). So I headed off the Sears, local small town version of Sears anyway. They had 20 TV sets all on Fox and I found myself lost watching it for over 45 minutes while pretending to wander around looking at tools, ect.. I want Fox, in a bad way. It was soooo refreshing to see some positive coverage, I had forgot it existed.

A lot of people are wondering why the Iraqis never used this stuff. My guess would be as follows: This kind of thing might make a good terrorist weapon, and might could be used effectively on a battlefield against a backwards enemy such as Iran, but against American troops on a battlefield would likely be worse than useless. To even try it you'd have to mass artillery, and the massed artillery and the men who man it would instantly become targets for a MOAB or some horrific fuel-air weapon which, as we've seen, was never more than 12 minutes away on a circling B1. And all of that for the vicarious thrill of allowing a handful of American troops to test out their govt. issue chemical warfare suits.

PSSST! .. We Got Big Problems! Bush Found Out About The Syrian Connections
How history will tell the story:
A. The U.N. sent inspectors into Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction - the same WMD Saddamn said he did not have. Forming new alliances, France, Germany, and Belgium, continually sought prolonged inspection times in their attempts to restrain the U.S. and Britian from attacking Saddam. The U.N. Council repeatedly ruled in thir favor.
B. Saddamn, while insisting (and convincing France, Germany, and Belgium) he had no WMD, at the same time threatened the U.S. and Britian to destroy them (WITH THE SAME WMD HE CLAIMED NOT TO HAVE) if they attacked Iraq.
C. The United States and Britian agreed that Saddamn had not complied with U.N. resolution 1441, had WMD, then attacked and removed Saddamn from power to prevent him (or other terrorists) from using them.
D. After the U.S. and Britian attacked Iraq, vast stores of WMD, chemical, biological, and yes - even some nuclear - were uncovered by the prevailing U.S. and British forces.
E. Saddamn and his two sons were tried before a U.N. tribunal and unaimously found to be enemies of minkind perptetuating mass murders on their own people of magnitudes and ferociouceness not seen since Adolph Hitler's actions created the word "genocide." They were summarily hung for their crimes against humanity. Regrettably the knots where incorrectly tied and the distance of the drop was not sufficient to break their necks. They swung and kicked for almost thirty minutes before strangling to their infamous historical deaths.
F. The Democrats in the United States had their worst election returns in the 2004 elections in that party's history.
G. George W. Bush was elected president for a second term in 2004 by the largest landslide in U.S. history.
H. Ditto for Tony Blair.
I. Hillary Clinton was defeated for his (grin) bid for reelection in New York State.
J. Thanks to the "footdragging" tactics of France and Germany througout the entire world crisis, the United Nations was made to be a laughing stock of historical proportions and was deemed irrelevent and impotent and consequently vaporized into nothingness as did it's predecessor - The League of Nations.

What I do notice is that the Bush administration and the military seem to be very calm, deliberate and cautious about the WMD issue. It is the international community, particularly the press that seems to be all in a tizzy about the WMD. I have not detected one single bit of evidence that the coalition is in a panic about finding the smoking gun.

Want to bet? This sounds like the most definitive report to date. Since these shells were mounted, it adds far more credence to it.
And this doesn't seem to be coming from an embedded reporter, who have no idea what they're looking at and get all excited with initial indications.

"Tommy Franks said this morning, in a live interview with Tony Snow, that he does not believe any WMD's have been moved from Iraq into Syria or anywhere else." Again, the operative word here being "believe."
As others have said, this will be a complete, scientific verification process with enough witnesses drawn to the scene to dispel even the most avid defenders of Russia, Germany, and France.
Tom Daschle will be (even more) deeply saddened.

I guess not. I'm happy if you're happy.
Maelstrom: False Alarms? Not one yet.
Bull. I tivo all this stuff. Fox has had literally dozens of false announcements. Not one has panned out yet. Many are debunked even before official testing was conducted.
Happy2BMe: There will be PLENTY, PLENTY, PLENTY to go around!
Bring it on. All I see is a lot of talk and BS intended to keep the gullible glued to Fox. They do have commercials to sell, after all. Where are the verified reports of all the rumors they've reported on? Name just one.
LowOiL: I want Fox, in a bad way. It was soooo refreshing to see some positive coverage,...
Fox is well worth watching. But more so in peacetime. Hume and Hannity are the best shows by far but the rest is good stuff.
We no longer need any WMD proof anyway. Since seeing the liberation on TV and hearing all the horror stories, new polls indicate Americans across the board no longer care about the WMD issue and believe that freeing Iraq from Saddam was worthwhile even if we never find any WMD. And the Weasels aren't going to change their opinions if we find WMD anyway.
WMD is actually dead as a political issue, domestically and internationally. Let it go.
To: Fishtalk
the US doesn't want any big announcements until all T's are crossed and I's dotted. Maybe they have been. Consider this If these weapons were discovered with say "French,German,Russian, and Chinese" fingerprints were on them, would you a.) Bribe the backstabbers or B.) Make it public and listen to the populace scream for "War"? It undobtedly would be B if all details were known.( here comes the nukes! Missle defense should have been in place a long time ago!!) And given the recent revelations concerning "our" KGB colonel's governments activities concerning Iraq....well I'm glad hes still "well". Combined all of this Gives new interest to UBL statements saying that "there are governments that want the US taken out". Kinda makes one wonder........ Who are your "friends"? ( Non France, Nein Duetschland, Nyet Da Strovia! but thats just MHO.)
