You Would Have Liked Dennis Miller Tonight
HBO ala PackerBoy | 4/12/03 | PackerBoy

Posted on 04/12/2003 7:59:09 PM PDT by PackerBoy

For those of you who are HBO deprived, I have to say that Dennis Miller was entertaining and refreshingly conservative (for the most part) in his one-hour special tonight. The special will be re-aired a number of times on HBO and its sister cable channels (HBO2, etc.). Do yourself a favor and watch, or get a friend to tape it for you.

Someone, someone help me.

I know that Dennis has been quite vocal recently, and has "sounded" quite conservative.......which leads me to my nagging memories. For some nagging reason, I want to believe that he has not always been conservative, and certainly not vocal about it........

If anyone has a recollection of where my memory comes from or if you can remember a specific example of when he said something liberal, please refresh me.

Frankly, I believe that he put his finger up in the wind, and noted the current direction of the public sentiment (81% support the war).....with his upcoming HBO special, the best way for him to get some publicity is to speak out, in the way that he has recently. Yes, I'm calling him a hypocrite, and that's why I want others' recollections.

Now, if he's sincere and proves it over the next few years, then I'll apologize. :)

We do need to further his education in regard to the Second Amendment and abortion. But he has come so far that we must be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Don't draw that comic too close to you. He may disappoint you one day.

Either of these two pairs could come out and make exactly the same point. But Rumsfeld & Cheney would come across as mature and thoughtful, while James and Mike would just sound shrill and arrogant.

Perhaps. But I would hardly put Miller in the same category as Carville. And I appreciate a little emotion from our side every once in a while.

Bob Dole used to make me almost run and hide when he droned on and on, without seeming to have any emotion behind his words. Cheney is mature and highly intelligent and invariably correct ... and half the country cannot name him as our current Veep.

It's an MTV-attention span and intellect level world out there now, for th emost part, and we (conservatives) need to market our cause to the people better. I think Miller does that well (except on guns and abortion).

highlights

Iraq - we need to kick ass and take hyphenated names.

Hillary Clinton rides Bill's coat tails because there is no room on the front end.

France is dead to me.

72 Virgins - sure it would be great at first, but at about number 10, I think I would want a pro.

They say we should live our lives like we did before 9/11, well guess what, I hated foreigners who wanted to kill me on September 10.

On Alaskan oil - Are we going to leave it there forever? - Why do caribou get there own state?

On dick cheney's money - What's wrong with someone successful being a leader? Are we only supposed to let the f**k ups who fail at life lead us?

Al Gore - even his inner circle was square - I know psoriasis sufferers who are more comfortable in their own skin.

ACLU - they are against public nativity scenes but will defend some psycho's right to have sex with the sheep in that nativity scene. -

change the name of abortion to 'ovarian mulligan'
Yow. That almost had a tiny pinch to it.
We're not using Alaska for oil, and you can't snowmobile in Yellowstone -what are they for ? just to look ? porn with leaves....?
I don't quote well but those two stuck out well.

Dennis will go wherever the wind blows.

He's a friggin' comedian...not some political figure; although he is likely stretching in that position.

I knew it was going to take a few minutes. Most acts have to warm up. While the content was good, he would have certainly more to work with if it were recorded a week ago.

On Barbra Steisand ...

Her husband sells mufflers. You'd think he could bring one home and stick it in her pie hole for once.

a 9mm will probably feel better in your hand (unless you have a large hand), and will not "kick" as much.

But a .45 makes a nice bang, and a big hole -- in whatever you are shooting at.

Oh, no.. No..

That was an exageration to illustrate my point.

Realistically, I wouldn't lump Dennis in the Carville category either.

Just review any Dennis Miller SNL Weekend Update to confirm your suspicions. Dennis was very liberal then. He appears to have changed, but I he's still a comic and he's there to sell jokes, not win votes for the RNC.

This may be a repeat, I've heard the "fishing with Fredo" remark before. Who is Fredo, anyway? Was that one of the Hobbits or is this something else?

No, no Dennis has always been a free-thinker, and HBO is re-running some of his old shows from six or seven years ago and EVEN THEN he was ripping the Clintons. He is the LAST comic/performer to put his finger in the wind.

That was a long time ago. I have watched his HBO show for years, and I think he has been evolving in his political beliefs.

I do not always agree with him, but I think he is sincere about what he says.
