Somehow I DOUBT the Marines said they wish they could have left. He's a freaking coward so he wants to take others down with him so he could face his "girlfriend." How old is this guy anyway.

"Somehow I DOUBT the Marines said they wish they could have left."
Actually, I don't doubt that the Marines said it. However, they probably said it in the same tones that I use when I say I wish I did not have to pay taxes, that I did not have to go to work on a nasty Monday morning when the bed feels good, and when I say I wish I did not have to clean the garage. Any sane person *would* wish that, just as any sane person would wish they did not have to get involved in combat.
The difference between the adults and the adolescents is that the adults stick with the stuff they wish they did not have to do when it has to be done. Just like these Marines wish they could have left, but by God were going to stick with their job because that is what their job was about.

While it is easy to fault him for cowardice, I'm not sure how comfortable any of us would feel wanding around Iraq armed with nothing more than a pencil. Personally, I don't think that a mere sidearm would jeopardize one's objectivity. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that more than one newsie is packing heat.

Somehow I DOUBT the Marines said they wish they could have left. Actually, it says they 'would have done the same' -- i.e., IF they were nitwit journalists of no practical benefit on the battlefield, they'd have gone home, too. I commend them for that.
