[history]
Security is tighter than a new shoe. Concrete barriers force all traffic approaching the base to zigzag to the gates. Here, guards carrying automatic weapons check all identification cards. Escorts go with visitors. Officials open and inspect trucks. On the flight line, the ramps that would usually be occupied by a number of reconnaissance aircraft sit nearly empty, the planes and crews deployed around the world.

I grew up in the flight path into Offutt.
Back then, during the Cold War, the Strategic Air Command was located there, and the planes came over our house about every 10 minutes.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks for posting this. Our military now is the best military that we have ever had. This is no insult to past military forces. Those in the past did great jobs or we would not be here. This group is Awesome as in Shock and Awe!

Thanks. I had two tours at OAFM. As a Lt I was interpreting satellite weather. My retirement was from a SAC unit that controlled the same satellites. A 20 year gap.Bellview was a nice place.
