HOW THE LEFT TURNED SOME PEOPLE RIGHT

Lars Larsen, a Portland, Oregon talk show host lamented for many hours the week of April 1st about Portland Mayor Vera Katz, who has been encouraging the war protesters, by allowing them to march in the streets, impeding traffic and making a general nuisance of themselves. Her staff had indicated earlier she was planning to march with the war protesters but perhaps chickened out under pressure. The Portland fire department was told to take all the flags off their equipment fearing attacks by protesters.
Lars reported one policeman was hit in the head with a baseball bat requiring stitches. Another had his face shield melt when a protester threw hydrofluoric acid. But no arrests have been made even though the baseball incident was caught by T.V. cameras.
In the meantime Portland Mayor Vera Katz is supplying the protesters with city toilet facilities and burn barrels, which would be totally illegal to any other group of protesters. Some protesters believe the more radical element is hurting their cause.
In the meantime, for a time at least, people in Portland were given tickets for honking an approval horn at pro-troop supporters.
It was all over the media when Oregon's first war fatality arrived and while the governor and some legislators were quick to call Army Spc. Brandon Tobler's parents to offer their condolences, Mayor Katz did not. The funeral director called her office to see if she was going to attend the funeral. Her staff said the parents had not called her to request her presence. She did end up going to the funeral but had not returned the call of the funeral director.
Had voters been more vigilant or IF the media had been more honest in their reporting about Vera Katz when she was in the Oregon legislature, perhaps Portlanders would have newer elected this New York City transplant, with her own personal body guard, according to Larsen, as mayor. Even though she was successful in her bid to become Oregon's first woman House speaker, her socialist agenda was very clear to legislative observers who watched her earlier performance in the legislature.
And now there is a move afoot to gather signatures to recall Vera Katz from office. It will be interesting to see if they can find willing workers to put their feet where their rhetoric has been. Even if they are successful in gathering the required number of signatures, will voters recall her or will this be another Bill Clinton replay? Will Oregon's Vote-By-Mail be an honest election?
You would have thought Portlanders would have wised up after they elected Vera's predecessor, tavern owner, Bud Clark, back in the mid-eighties. Clark was heavily supported by the homosexual community and in 1989 declared February 14th "Condom Awareness Day" and in July 1992 said he wished the Pope would tell everyone to use a condom.
And now they have Vera. Perhaps they thought anything would be better than Bud Clark but Vera was responsible while in the Oregon legislature for "special rights" for the lesbians and homosexual community and now totally supports them as mayor. Will Portlanders have learned their lesson? Will left-leaning Katz turn the majority of them right?

Gov. Ted Kulongosk at Army Spc. Brandon Tobler's memorial service: "This state wraps its collective arms around you," he said. "You lived for love of family and died for your country and love of freedom."
Lars, sitting in for Rush added in his commentary on Katz: The family of Army Spc. Tobler had requested a police presence for the service, as this courtesy had not been offered to them. The funeral was open to the public. Mayor Katz was said to have responded she would attach two officers to the funeral, but did not want this seen as "setting a precedent".

This title is completely bogus.
This article isn't about "how the left turned some people right" at all. It's about one talk show hosts HOPE that people who are already conservative will "wise up" and figure out that his mayor is a Lefist.
Do a better job of selecting headlines next time. Waste of my time reading the article.

"Another had his face shield melt when a protester threw hydrofluoric acid."
Wouldn't that be considered attempted capital murder of a peace officer? Probably would in a place like Texas.

Read the whole article: I didn't select any headline..check the source. The story is long..EXCERPT and gets more in detail. I added Lars in quotes as it is based on his narrative.

Lars Larsen, a Portland, Oregon talk show host lamented for many hours the week of April 1st about Portland Mayor Vera Katz, who has been encouraging the war protesters, by allowing them to march in the streets, impeding traffic and making a general nuisance of themselves. This is illegal and unconstitutional. It violates equal rights treatment and it is politicians leading pogroms against other sectors of society in felonious confinement and assaults on the persons on a mass scale. It is domestic violence and terrorism, it is not free speech. Why is this allowed to go on. Why do people not sue them? +

It is mind boggling. I just do not know how they get away with it.

I did read it. I was expecting facts, not opinion.
I was expecting to see, for example, some statistics about how voting patterns might have changed in your neck of the woods.
My point is that conservatives need to stop engaging in wishful thinking. I personally think that conservatives need to "vote with their feet" and get out of places like yours. My parents are for example leaving the town where they have lived for thirty-five years, which has become a hotbed of the most fascistic Leftist politics, because they are sick of it and want to leave the cesspool to drown in its own filth.
This is the most effective version of "Atlas Shrugged" that I can conceive of. It would dilute Leftist voting strength and political clout like nothing else.

What happened with the alleged 1 million signatures to remove Davis in California?
To: Fred Hayek
The reporter needs to check his chemistry, too. Hydrofluoric acid is mostly used to etch GLASS. Certainly wouldn't melt the plastic face shield.

I think the majority in the coastal cities are, and the rural areas are Red Zone.

Vera Katz is a disgrace to her office and the citizens of Portland. She ought to be impeached or recalled by petition.

in your neck of the woods.. not my neck of the woods, but that is a mute point.
facts, not opinion...the source is "commentary" NewsWithViews..I believe there is background in the portion of the article not on the board, such as Gary Allen, a graduate of Stanford University research for his book with a similar title.

As I recall Katz made a big show of not assisting the Feds in flushing out terrorists after 911. I think there also may have been some question of former staffers having links to terrorist organizations.

They're all transplanted Kalifornians.

Perhaps you need to check your chemistry..corrosive acid (commonly hydrofluoric acid) is so strong that it can even dissolve or melt porcelain. Etch refinisher's use it in bathroom projects. In use even dangers; to counters, floors, (in case of accidental spills), drain pipes, plastic plumbing joints, to septic tanks-the environment.

Certainly wouldn't melt the plastic face shield. Oh yes it would. But you're right that it's used to etch glass, which it's why it's hard to imagine how someone would "throw" it at you - you can't keep it in glass or ceramic containers, only polyethelene or teflon, and trying to splash it on someone is an extremely risky proposition for your own safety.
