BAGHDAD -- The cold heart and playboy lifestyle of Udai Hussein are laid bare in the remnants of his charred and ransacked house on the Tigris River.
There are love notes with lipstick kisses. There are photos of long-haired girls in short dresses. And there is a letter unsent in which Udai, passed over for his younger brother, Qusai, as the heir apparent to Saddam Hussein, expresses fear that his father's ambition would lead to the family's downfall.
"I don't know about the future," notes the undated letter. "We are making problems for ourselves. . . .
"My father wants to go down in history, but his heart is finished from any kindness. I have nothing in my heart toward my father, not any love or kindness," he writes. "I don't know if he listens even to himself anymore. In the end I ask God to keep this house safe."

How touching. Deep down they were a dysfunctional family and it was amazing they lasted in power as long as they did.

From later in the article:
Cargo manifests in French attest to Udai having received shipments of arms and ammunition.

Say what you like about Tony Soprano, at least he kept his family out of the business. With the Husseins, they were involved in every aspect of organized crime, from Papa to the Sons.

I have nothing in my heart toward my father, not any love or kindness
That's OK because Sean Penn, Bonior, McDermott, and a whole cast of others really loved him.

It'll be marveled how bleeding hearts have such warmth for psychopaths.

"My father wants to go down in history, but his heart is finished from any kindness. I don't know if he listens even to himself anymore."
I always wondered why Saddam just insisted on playing out this bad hand. He could still be in power, with no sanctions. But he didn't want that. He insisted on this showdown, and he had to know he would lose.
Dictators have absolute power. What they say goes, or else.
I guess after so long you get used to the "Jump!/How high?" routine that it's unthinkable that your authority could be questioned. If it is, they just can't deal with it emotionally.
It's just too much for someone like Saddam or Kim Jong I suppose. Death may be preferable..

Nah, I don't think a miniseries on people who cut out tongues, torture, let babies starve while their mamas watch, rape for fun and political game, have underground prisons, send choppped up remains of children to parents will cause much chuckle and empathy in tv land. surely I am right about this. I pray I am.
