Putin warns US on more attacks

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin today warned the US-led coalition not to attack other countries under the pretext of promoting capitalist and democratic values after having defeated Iraq's dictatorial regime.

"We are not going to export capitalist, democratic revolutions," the Russian leader told reporters as rumours in Washington allege that some elements of the US administration are mulling launching military operations against other Middle Eastern states.

"If we do, we're going to end up on a slippery slope to non-ending military conflicts. We can't let that happen," Putin said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac after holding talks with them.

Following the demise of the Iraqi regime, top US officials have issued a series of warnings to Syria, which now fears it might be next in line for a new US strike in the Middle East.

US Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld on Thursday warned Damascus about giving aid to remnants of the Iraqi regime.

Rumsfeld accused Syria of helping "senior regime people out of Iraq and into Syria" and of continuing to provide Iraqi forces with equipment despite previous warnings.

And US President George W Bush asked Syria for its "total cooperation" in closing its border with neighbouring Iraq and turning over to the United States former dignitaries of Saddam Hussein's regime who may have found shelter on its territory.

Your right on. If you scratch the KGB man, the KGB colors under the skin start to show.

His mindset is still Soviet.

Putin should have stayed in bed with Bush. He had an ally who would have helped develop the Russian economy, deal with the Russian mafia, hold onto Siberia, and probably eventually help control Chechnya. Putin blew it.

"We are not going to export capitalist, democratic revolutions,"

No, Russia is still thinking about exporting communism.

"If we do, we're going to end up on a slippery slope to non-ending military conflicts. We can't let that happen,"

This coming from the country that started conflict after conflict trying to communize the world.

The Russians have some good equipment scattered throughout their arsenal (Sunburn missiles, Kornet ATGMs, Sukhoi fighters, etc.) but they will never be a match for the American military again. Combined arms on today's battlefield against the U.S. demands that technology, training, morale/motivation and logistics some together under lethal and fast-moving circumstances. The Russians have glaring holes in all of these fields.

On top of the above, the population of Russia is now ONE HALF that of the U.S., dropping precipitously, and in far worse health. Rather than antagonizing America, Russia would be far better off aligning with the U.S. and India against China, which is primed to steal much of Russia's most valuable territory.

I think that Russia will eventualy try to form a new Soviet Union along with Belarus and a few other former Soviet Republics, but Russia's muslim problem in Chechnya/Kazhakstan, the expansion of NATO into the former Baltic republics of the USSR and Ukraine's desire to keep Russia at arm's length will prevent a truly powerful USSR from re-emerging.

We will do what is right, Mr pooting, just as we did this time, and we will never again stand by as monsters torture and intimidate innocent people.

Stalin did it, Hitler did it, Mao did it, Castro did it, and Saddam did it too, for too damn long. We have at last learned that ignoring the sonovabitches of the world as they abuse and intimidate their betters, avails us nothing. It merely emboldens the tyrants to the point that they have delusions of being more powerful than free people. THose idiots are advised to profit by their stupid mistakes of recent vintage and throughout history. Mess with us, and your ass is ours!

Iraq shall be free to rule it's own destiny. The Coalition did not remove the Baathless bastards party and it's filthy leader, just to make room for other tyrants.

Go ahead, France, Russia, Germany, United socialist Nations-make our day, Punks!

People just keep underestimating President Bush, you would think they would learn.

I thought in the months after 9/11, Putin was going to make the right move and stick with Bush, even up until a few months ago I thought he would hang in there, but he showed his true colors...Commie Red

A lot depends on how threatened they see themselves AND whether there is a "national pride" they feel they have to defend.

Russia, while not a military challenge at this time, could make our life miserable should they be provoked into.

Heck, just the sale of a few mobile nukes to Iran would do the trick, don't you think?

""We are not going to export capitalist, democratic revolutions," the Russian leader told reporters"

But it's ok to export communist, facist, genocidal dictatorships according to Putin. I hope you enjoyed your one and only barbeque at the ranch. You won't be coming back you red b*st*rd.

Maybe the Russian threat is not tied to a geographic area or population. The Russian threat might be a way of thinking that finds a home in systems that promote just one way of thinking- like Islam or facism.

Evidently, the Russians can't even level the city (Chechen rebel stronghold) properly.

As I remember, they have declaired victory at least five times. Each time, out of the rubble came the barrel of a gun.

To any who doubted the wisdom of those who wrote the 2 nd Amendment, give 'em a one word rebuttal "Chechnya".
