The flu of 1918 was 2.5 - 2.7 death rate and they are still talking about that one. 50% of medical staff (without special protection) treating patients come down with sars.

WHO has changed their reporting format. They now break it down by deaths and recoveries. The April 11 worldwide figures are 2890 cases, 116 deaths, 1373 recoveries. Going by deaths/cases, we get 4%.

But going by "final resolution" (did he recover or did he die), we get 116 / (116 + 1373) = closer to 8% death rate.

Excluding Communist bloc countries, and their suspect reporting, the numbers start looking uglier. In Canada, we have 10 deaths and 25 recoveries, Singapore 9 deaths 77 recoveries, Thailand 2 deaths 5 recoveries. If this breaks out into a global pandemic, we're looking at Black Death casualty figures
