A moment that spoke for America
April 10, 2003 3:50 pm Marine Cpl. Edward Chin didnt roll into Baghdad with his armored unit expecting to help pull down a huge metal statue of Saddam Hussein. The city was still a dangerous place, as events over the next few hours would make clear. But for a few minutes, Cpl. Chin was a worldwide media event as he scampered up the hoist of a tank recovery vehicle and fastened a chain around the neck of the statue, taking time to briefly drape the soon-to-be decapitated head with Old Glory.
It was a photo op unlike any other in the three-week-old war. But who is Cpl. Chin, one of the thousands of young Marines and soldiers who took Baghdad in what seems likely to go into the history books as one of the most remarkable feats of American arms?

It was reported that the flag he draped over Saddams
statue had a connection to 9/11. I thought that it flew over
the Pentagon on 9/11 but can't recall for sure.

Methinks that Cpl Edward Chin should be promoted to Sergeant immediately! A comission would be even better.
To: mtbrandon49
The other bit I heard about this guy is that his mother came here as a refugee from Burma and that Edward was born the week after she got here. The story I read had quotes from the lady who said in imperfect English something like "We wanted a better future for our children. We wanted American freedom. Now Edward is bringing American freedom." I was so glad and proud to contemplate this. From refugee from tyranny to guarantor of freedom in the span of one young man's life. May God continue to bless us with such wonderful Americans. (And to the slackers and whiners: This is how it's done, now get busy!)
