But again, you gain nothing by withholding your support from the President at this point in history. The only beneficiaries are the Democrats.

I didn't like the first Patriot Act. If the sunset clause is lifted and the act is made permanent then addended to, I will make my decision based on my conscience as anyone else here should do.

I am not on a high horse or arguing that a disagreement is somehow unprincipled. Right now, I support the President. What I proposed was a hypothetical that may or may not come to pass. No more, no less.

First, EV, many thanks for an eloquent call to arms for our party and people.

Amused, I think it would be a good idea for you to write a vanity as EV has requested. I strongly suspect there is a serious lack of knowledge about what the Patriot Acts contain and their potential for erosion of our freedoms. If the case against these acts was better understood, I think, as EV does, that you would get significant support here.

That being said, I'm sure a Democratic President would be equally happy to support similar acts in wartime, so I don't think you should base your vote on that one specific issue. Think about Hillary Clinton's "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" and consider how much she would love to suppress our free speech rights if she felt she could get away with it.
